Job description

Who We Are

Legacy HR Consulting puts the human back into HR. We're passionate about creating workplaces where people feel supported, respected, and empowered. We partner with mission-driven and social justice organizations to build inclusive workplaces that attract and retain dream teams. Our clients are committed to advancing social justice, including reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ equality, racial equity, and economic justice.

At Legacy HR Consulting, we're not just a team; we're a community. We value authenticity, empathy, and collaboration in all our relationships, whether with our clients or each other.

 What You’ll Be Doing

We're looking for a strong HR Generalist who is confident working across multiple HR domains, including multi-state leaves and compliance, and capable of leading project-based deliverables from start to finish. You'll balance support for our fractional HR clients with project-based HR work, serving as the day-to-day operational point of contact for assigned projects, from deliverable development through client communication and closeout.
This role is well suited to someone who already works with multiple clients or manages their own book of HR work and is looking to add a steady, structured engagement to that mix.

  • Core Responsibilities
    • Serve as an HR point of contact for assigned clients, providing responsive and thoughtful support
    • Handle employee relations questions, policy interpretation, and general HR compliance support, including leave and accommodation administration across multiple states (California and New York/NYC experience required)
    • Join client meetings to provide updates, follow-ups, and documentation
    • Use internal tools like ClickUp, Clockify, and Slack to track your work and communicate updates
  • Project-Based Responsibilities
    • Own and drive execution on HR deliverables such as employee handbooks, policies, onboarding/offboarding toolkits, and performance frameworks, ensuring high-quality, human-centered work throughout
    • Draft and refine deliverables independently, escalating only for strategic or unfamiliar issues, applying an equity-informed lens throughout
    • Track timelines, milestones, and deliverables in ClickUp, updating task statuses daily and flagging bottlenecks or retainer/utilization concerns early
    • Coordinate with the Client Account Manager (CAM) for scope-related questions and meeting logistics
    • Delegate formatting, research, or administrative tasks to Project Support as needed
  • Internal Team Growth
    • Draft and refine internal SOPs and processes as our internal systems mature
    • Offer feedback and input on internal People practices as we scale, helping us practice what we consult on
    • Attend monthly team meetings
 Equity in Practice

At Legacy HRC, we don't just talk about equity; we build it into how we show up. In this role, you'll apply an equity lens to everything you do, from drafting policies to handling employee questions. We encourage learning, curiosity, feedback, and humility in our efforts to build workplaces that center justice and inclusion, including ensuring our deliverables are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with each client's cultural and operational context.

Who You Are

You bring hands-on HR experience and the confidence to manage workstreams and timelines independently. You take initiative, communicate clearly, and are aligned with our mission and values.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of HR generalist experience (nonprofit or values-aligned client experience preferred)
  • An equity-informed mindset and commitment to social justice
  • Hands-on experience administering leave and accommodation processes across multiple states, with working knowledge of California and New York required and Massachusetts or Oregon a plus
  • Experience leading HR projects like policy creation, audits, or onboarding/offboarding systems
  • Experience managing end-to-end HR project delivery, including client communication, timeline management, and task coordination
  • Working knowledge of compliance areas like FMLA, ADA, EEOC, and wage & hour law
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency (or willingness to learn) ClickUp, Slack, and Google Suite
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently
  • A track record of building processes or documentation that others can pick up and use, not just work that lives in your own head
A plus (but not required):
  • Experience with compensation structuring and job leveling
  • Experience supporting employee relations investigations and conflict resolution
  • Experience designing performance frameworks or onboarding programs
Compensation & Benefits

Compensation: This is a W2 position with an hourly pay range of $35–38. We are committed to paying a livable wage and strive to provide annual cost-of-living adjustments when the budget allows.

Benefits Include:

  • 20 hrs Vacation Time
  • 40 hrs Sick Time
  • 11 paid holidays, including a fully paid winter break
  • Ability to participate in a 401(k)
  • Discount on Peloton Membership
  • Opportunities for growth and leadership roles, including increased project ownership and strategic client engagement

Why Join Legacy HR Consulting?

  • Be part of a culture that truly embodies what we teach, one that values empathy, authenticity, and the human experience. We prioritize well-being, collaboration, and continuous learning, and we believe in balancing excellence with humanity so you can bring your whole self to work.

Work Hours:

This role starts at 15–20 hours per week, with a check-in at 90 days to discuss growth toward 20–25 hours as business needs allow. You'll need a set weekday schedule within our core business hours (9 AM–5 PM CST), since client work depends on availability during that window. This role isn't a fit for evening-only availability, but it works well alongside other client commitments as long as you can hold consistent hours in that CST window
