Remote Hotel Tester information

What is a remote hotel tester?

Remote hotel testers are individuals who evaluate hotels and their services from a distance, often by booking stays, assessing guest experiences, and providing feedback online. They may work independently or for companies that specialize in hospitality quality assurance. These testers review aspects such as cleanliness, customer service, amenities, and overall guest satisfaction, typically without the hotel staff knowing their identity. The results help hotels improve their operations and guest experience. Remote hotel testing roles are often freelance or contract-based and may require travel or virtual assessments.

What are some common challenges faced by remote hotel testers when evaluating hotel services virtually?

Remote Hotel Testers often face challenges such as limited access to onsite experiences, relying heavily on virtual tours, online communications, and digital feedback from hotel staff. This can make it harder to assess aspects like room cleanliness, ambiance, or service quality firsthand. Testers must develop strong observational skills, pay close attention to detail in online interactions, and utilize technology effectively to provide thorough and accurate evaluations. Collaborating closely with onsite hotel staff and using standardized checklists can help ensure comprehensive assessments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote hotel tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Hotel Tester, you need strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and experience in hospitality or travel, often supported by a background in quality assurance or customer service. Familiarity with review platforms, survey tools, and hotel booking systems is typically required. Excellent written communication, objectivity, and time management distinguish top performers in this role. These skills are crucial for providing accurate, actionable feedback that helps hotels improve guest experiences and maintain high standards.

Remote Hotel Reviewers primarily write reviews and rate hotels based on personal experiences or research. While both roles involve hospitality knowledge, testers may require more technical or operational understanding, whereas reviewers focus on content creation. Both roles are home-based and serve the hospitality and travel industry, but they differ in their core responsibilities and employer types.

How do I become a remote hotel tester?

To become a remote hotel tester, you typically need to have strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and experience in hospitality or customer service. Some roles may require knowledge of hotel standards and the ability to provide detailed feedback through reports or surveys. Certification is not usually required, but familiarity with online review platforms and remote work tools can be beneficial.

Job description

Public Goods is a DTC e-commerce company, a digitally native, membership-driven, one-stop-shop that offers high-quality, sustainable essentials across grocery, household, and personal care. Public Goods' mission is to make premium-quality, healthy and sustainable products more accessible. We value the environment, and we believe that together our small choices can make a big impact.

We need your help to scale and grow our b2b department! Whether it is a retailer stocking our products, or a hotel using our product, we are in need of someone who is interested in forming new relationships on behalf of Public Goods. We are looking for eager people interested in consumer products, e-commerce, and building a brand. More specifically, scaling either our retail & hospitality partnerships sounds like an exciting opportunity for you.

You'll collaborate directly with our CEO (Morgan), our Head of Partnerships (Chris), and with the rest of the B2B, team to activate & engage new partners and connect with opportunities from our increasing inbound interest.

What's in it for me?

  • The opportunity to join a well-funded, fast-growing startup as a core member of the partnerships team.
  • The ability to own the process from pitching a new account to closing the account. This is a unique structure that provides an opportunity to deepen relationships & keeps you in control of the partnership. We won't be asking you to only set up meetings like a traditional sales dev. role.
  • The ability to be creative in thinking through the best ways to climb toward our collective goal
  • A chance to hone your leadership skills in a role that's essential to the success of our entire business.

What you'll be working on:

  • You will be helping us in our expansion into either retail or hospitality specifically
  • Prospecting, inbounds & outreach
  • Vetting and finding potential partners and crafting unique entryways to get our foot in the door
  • Manage inbounds and creating a successful trajectory for them to become a partner
  • A/B testing your own strategy to measure what is effective and what is not

Who you are:

  • 1-2 years working experience working closely with partners in a similar role (BD, sales, etc).
  • Strong familiarity with the Shopify ecosystem.
  • Proven experience with partnerships or sales (deals, accounts, etc) and the associated tech stack (HubSpot)
  • Project management & cross-department communication (operations and marketing)
  • Experience in Excel
  • You're eager to learn fast and stay curious
  • You can wear lots of different hats and learn a new skill quickly if it means helping the team
  • You're able to own your process, step-up, and manage projects. Rather than look for doers, you can be one yourself
  • You work smart. It's easy to waste time on things that don't drive results. You need to be laser-focused on the activities that have the biggest impact.

Personal and Professional Attributes:

  • Motivated by growth, driven by more than just a paycheck
  • Passionate about our mission
  • Self-reliant and comfortable working without much guidance
  • Focused on the customer, not the competitor
  • Kind, compassionate, and willing to roll your sleeves up

This is a remote position.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package salary + equity.
  • 100% covered Medical/Dental/Vision/telemedicine services for employees
  • Public Goods lifetime membership and monthly credits to both Public Goods and a monthly stipend for books of your choice!
