Job description

Role and Responsibilities:
Full time Principal Field Engineer supporting numerous installations at Surface Warfare Engineering Facility (SWEF), PHD labs and the network infrastructure at NAVSEA PHD. The position demands a high level of expertise, leadership and ability to manage the Self Defense Test Ship (SDTS) Test Ship Remote Control Network (TSRCN). The system includes a network spanning 5 physical locations including the SDTS. The Network consists of approximately 30 switches made up of mostly Cisco 9300 switches and includes multiple VLANS, MACSEC encryption, as well as Ether channels.
Position Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a technical field and minimum of 8-10 years of network experience or no degree and a minimum of 14 years of direct network experience supporting technical projects.
Must be able to work with a small team of engineers to install, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all aspects of the Test Ship Remote Control System.
Must be able to provide system support for the remote control of radars, weapons, combat systems, and navigation of the SDTS.
Must be able to support systems including Windows and Linux computers, video surveillance, phone system, push-to-talk system, camera tracking mount, microwave radios and antennas, and antenna controllers.
Must have a minimum two-years' experience administering Cisco switches and a CCNA, CCNP, or similar Cisco certification.
Must be able to learn and support the installation, operation, and maintenance of other network devices in support of test events on board the SDTS.
Responsible for coordinating and communicating with team members and customers ensuring thateveryone is informed and working towards the same goals.
Able to satisfactorily complete background check, receive and maintain a government clearance.
Able to follow company policies, procedures and complete required training.
Able to write, speak and understand English and write clear, detailed technical monthly reports.
Preferred Skills:
Fluent in Windows and Linux
Experience with data radios and antennas
Experience with video encoding/decoding, mp4
Experience with reading and creating wiring and installation drawings
Experience with military specification circular connectors
Experience with encryption, FIPS 140-2, Type 1 classified encryption
Experience with Naval ships, radars, weapons, combat systems.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to get underway as required to support test events.
Must be able to travel to remote sites (San Nicolas Island, Laguna Peak, and Pt. Mugu)
Must be able to climb up and down shipboard vertical ladders
