The Department of Epidemiology and Prevention in the Wake Forest University School of Medicine is experiencing a period of tremendous growth and opportunity, with several ongoing faculty searches underway. The new strategic partnership between Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Atrium Health, and Advocate Health has created an unparalleled opportunity for epidemiologic research in cancer prevention and control. We are seeking faculty at the Associate or Full Professor rank whose research focuses on cancer epidemiology, particularly in cancer prevention and control, as well as developing and advancing strategies to reduce cancer risk and improve early detection. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: genomic epidemiology, big data and applied informatics, methodological expertise with claims and EHR data (e.g., EHR-based phenotyping and validation), and experience in designing, implementing, or evaluating cancer screening interventions.
Leadership opportunities within the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center (AHWFBCCC) may be available as well as interaction with Cancer National Service Line, dependent on candidate interests and experience. This position recruitment may reside in either Winston-Salem or Charlotte, North Carolina, depending on candidate preference and programmatic fit.

In the past decade alone, the Division generated nearly $500 million of Wake Forest University School of Medicine's research funding.
Faculty within the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention often share joint appointments within clinical departments, enhancing opportunities for clinical epidemiological studies that directly inform patient care. Newly hired faculty can affiliate with one or more of our nationally-recognized centers including:
  • Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center
  • Center for Healthcare Innovation

Faculty within the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention have extensive experience with large, multicenter studies and collaborate with clinicians and basic scientists from a variety of other departments within the health system, as well as institutions and communities across the U.S. and abroad. We are deeply committed to recruiting and retaining a workforce representative of the communities we serve, fostering a sense of belonging, and improving health outcomes.
Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center
The NCI-designated Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center (AHWFBCCC) is a leader in cancer care, transdisciplinary research, and education. AHWFBCCC is driven by the mission to reduce the burden of cancer within the catchment area and beyond. AHWFBCCC's two campuses (Winston-Salem and Charlotte) serves a catchment area of 5M residents across 30 contiguous counties within North and South Carolina. With a team of 400 researchers and physicians, AHWFBCCC is focused on translating discoveries from basic and population sciences research into clinical use for preventing, detecting, treating, and surviving cancer. This is achieved through three Research Programs: Molecular and Cellular Oncology, Cancer Prevention and Control, and Translational Oncology. The thriving Cancer Prevention and Control (CPC) Research Program contains more than 120 members across 18 departments and approximately $17 million in peer-reviewed cancer research. Unique resources include a P50 center led by CPC investigators focused on translational alcohol research, as well as the Wake Forest NCORP (NCI Community Oncology Research Program) Research Base, one of seven research bases funded by the NCI to bring cancer clinical trials and care delivery studies to people in their own communities. Additionally, AHWFBCCC's Office of Community Outreach and Engagement and Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination Office both maintain a robust portfolio of activities and initiatives, including two NCI-funded T32s, two R25s, and 18 other NIH-funded training grants.
