What is a Remote HCC Risk Adjustment Coder?

A Remote HCC Risk Adjustment Coder is a medical coding professional who works from home or another remote location, reviewing patient medical records to assign Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) codes. These codes are used by healthcare organizations to accurately reflect the severity of patient illnesses for risk adjustment and reimbursement purposes, especially in Medicare Advantage programs. The coder analyzes clinical documentation to ensure that diagnoses are coded correctly and in compliance with regulatory guidelines. Their work is essential for ensuring healthcare providers receive appropriate compensation and for maintaining accurate patient risk profiles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote HCC risk adjustment coder?

To thrive as a Remote HCC Risk Adjustment Coder, you need a solid understanding of ICD-10-CM coding guidelines, risk adjustment models, and extensive experience in medical record review, typically supported by a relevant coding certification such as CPC or CRC. Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems, coding software, and risk adjustment platforms is essential. Exceptional attention to detail, analytical thinking, and strong communication skills help coders excel in remote settings and ensure coding accuracy. These skills and qualifications are vital for optimizing risk scores, ensuring compliance, and supporting accurate reimbursement in healthcare organizations.

What are some common challenges faced by remote HCC risk adjustment coders and how can they be managed?

Remote HCC Risk Adjustment Coders often encounter challenges such as interpreting incomplete or ambiguous medical documentation, staying updated with evolving coding guidelines, and managing communication across dispersed teams. To address these challenges, it's important to proactively seek clarification from providers, participate in ongoing training, and utilize collaboration tools to stay connected with peers and supervisors. Establishing a structured daily workflow and leveraging available resources can also help maintain coding accuracy and productivity in a remote setting.

What are we looking for?

The Senior Software Developer is responsible for leading the design, development, and maintenance of our mobile applications across iOS and Android. You will build cross-platform features using .NET MAUI while working natively where platform-specific capability is required, own the quality and performance of the mobile experience in customers' hands, and help shape our mobile architecture and release practices. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to complex projects and mentor other developers while driving innovation and best practices in a consolidating mobile platform.

Salary & Benefits Information

Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

In addition to competitive compensation packages, when working with Intertek you can expect benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k) with company match, generous vacation / sick time (PTO), tuition reimbursement and more.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the design and development of cross-platform mobile applications using .NET MAUI and C# for both iOS and Android, building native functionality in Swift/SwiftUI or Kotlin/Java where platform-specific capability, performance, or API access requires it.
  • Architect scalable, robust, and maintainable mobile applications that meet performance, reliability, and security requirements, and write clean, efficient, well-documented code adhering to coding standards.
  • Implement responsive, intuitive interfaces that follow platform design conventions and accessibility standards, including push notifications, deep linking, background execution, and device permission handling.
  • Integrate mobile applications with backend REST APIs, implementing offline-first behavior, local persistence, and reliable data synchronization.
  • Own the mobile release process end to end (build pipelines, code signing, provisioning profiles, submissions to App Store Connect and Google Play Console, and beta distribution and staged rollouts via TestFlight and Play Console release tracks), working with our DevOps team to ensure all processes are automated and repeatable.
  • Instrument applications for crash reporting, performance monitoring, and usage analytics; diagnose and resolve platform-specific issues including memory pressure, threading and concurrency defects, battery consumption, and device fragmentation.
  • Conduct comprehensive testing, debugging, and code reviews; collaborate with Quality Assurance to ensure software quality across the supported device matrix, and participate in incident response and root cause analysis for mobile-related issues.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the development team while collaborating with product, architecture, and scrum teams to scope work, provide accurate estimates, translate business needs into technical solutions, document architecture and release procedures, demo functionality during Sprint Review, and stay current on emerging mobile technologies, platform releases, and store policy changes.

This position outline is a general guideline and does not represent all encompassing details. The position assumes that the incumbent has both the mental and physical requirements to carry out the above defined duties.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field. (Equivalent professional experience will be considered.)
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, with significant time focused on mobile application development.
  • Hands-on experience building and shipping applications with .NET MAUI (or Xamarin.Forms with demonstrated MAUI migration experience) using C# and .NET, plus native mobile development experience in at least one of iOS using Swift/SwiftUI or Android using Kotlin/Java.
  • Strong understanding of mobile application architecture and patterns such as MVVM, including state management and dependency injection, with experience integrating mobile applications with REST APIs and JSON and implementing local data persistence and offline synchronization using SQLite, Core Data, Room, or similar.
  • Experience with the mobile app store release process (including code signing, provisioning profiles, App Store Connect, and Google Play Console) along with proficiency in mobile debugging and profiling tools such as Xcode Instruments or Android Studio Profiler and version control systems, preferably Git and GitHub.
  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives, mentor junior developers, and drive project success, with excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality software within agreed-upon timelines, and availability for occasional after-hours work or scheduled on-call hours.
  • This is a remote position; however, applicants must reside in and be able to legally work in the United States.

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Native development experience across both iOS and Android, including experience migrating applications from Xamarin to .NET MAUI.
  • Experience with mobile CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions, Xcode Cloud, Fastlane, or App Center, along with crash and performance tooling such as Firebase Crashlytics, Splunk Observability, or OpenTelemetry/Real User Monitoring.
  • Experience with mobile device management (MDM), device registration, or kiosk/managed-device deployments, and with mobile accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA) and platform accessibility APIs.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and familiarity with front-end web technologies such as Angular, React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
