Remote Geospatial information

What is a remote geospatial?

A Remote Geospatial job involves analyzing and interpreting geographic data using technologies like GIS, remote sensing, and GPS from a remote location. Professionals in this field work with maps, satellite imagery, and spatial data to support industries such as environmental science, urban planning, disaster management, and agriculture. These roles require proficiency in geospatial software and data analysis, as well as strong problem-solving skills. Remote positions allow professionals to collaborate with teams and clients globally while using cloud-based tools for data processing and visualization.

What does a remote geospatial do?

A typical day as a Remote Geospatial professional often involves processing and analyzing spatial data, creating maps and visualizations, and collaborating with team members through virtual meetings or project management platforms. You may work closely with clients or internal stakeholders to clarify project requirements and deliver geospatial insights that inform decision-making. Daily tasks can also include data cleaning, maintaining spatial databases, and producing reports or presentations. Since the role is remote, strong organizational skills and proactive communication are key to managing your workload and meeting project deadlines efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the remote geospatial position, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Geospatial professional, a strong background in geographic information systems (GIS), spatial data analysis, and cartography is typically required, often supported by a degree in geography, environmental science, or a related field. Familiarity with technical tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, remote sensing software, and certifications like GISP enhance technical proficiency. Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to collaborate virtually are important soft skills for remote work environments. These capabilities are crucial for accurately analyzing spatial data, solving client problems, and efficiently contributing to distributed teams.

Position Overview

Crown Innovations is seeking a detail-oriented AutoCAD Drafter to support the FAA FOTS Program, specifically within the Airport Cable Loop (ACL) initiative. This role focuses on translating field-collected geospatial survey data into accurate AutoCAD drawings and KML files used to support critical airport communications infrastructure.

The successful candidate will work closely with the field survey team to process GPS coordinate data and produce detailed AutoCAD drawings that support the installation and documentation of airport cable infrastructure.

This position requires strong AutoCAD drafting skills combined with experience integrating geospatial data, interpreting survey information, and maintaining precise engineering documentation standards.

Key Responsibilities

Geospatial Data Integration & Drafting

• Receive and process GPS coordinate data provided by the field survey team (typically from Trimble TerraFlex)
• Plot and georeference manhole locations and infrastructure data within AutoCAD
• Develop or refine airport base maps using available imagery, airport layouts, or survey information
• Ensure accurate coordinate system alignment and geospatial referencing

Infrastructure Drawing Development

• Produce detailed AutoCAD drawings illustrating manhole structures and cable routing
• Document interior manhole structures including walls and relevant infrastructure components
• Illustrate existing and proposed cable routing within manholes
• Integrate structural or utility details provided by the field survey team

Data & File Generation

• Generate KML files from AutoCAD drawings for visualization within Google Earth or Google Maps
• Maintain accurate spatial data and associated infrastructure documentation
• Perform quality control checks to ensure drawing accuracy and completeness
• Maintain organized CAD drawing files in accordance with project standards

Collaboration & Project Coordination

• Collaborate with the survey team to clarify GPS data points and field conditions
• Interpret field notes, survey documentation, and photographs provided by survey teams
• Maintain drawing standards aligned with FAA infrastructure project requirements
• Support project timelines by producing accurate deliverables on schedule

Minimum Required Qualifications

• Associate degree or two-year technical certificate in Drafting, GIS, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field
• Minimum two (2) years of professional drafting experience
• Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD (AutoCAD Map 3D or Civil 3D preferred)
• Experience importing and plotting GPS coordinate data from survey files (CSV, TXT, etc.)
• Working knowledge of geospatial coordinate systems such as UTM, State Plane, and WGS84
• Experience georeferencing drawings within AutoCAD
• Ability to interpret survey data, field notes, and supporting documentation
• Strong attention to detail and drafting accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines
• Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with field teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on airport infrastructure, utility mapping, or civil infrastructure projects
• Familiarity with Trimble TerraFlex or Trimble Business Center (TBC) data formats
• Experience producing KML files for Google Earth or geospatial visualization tools
• Familiarity with FAA drafting standards or federally regulated infrastructure projects
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, GIS, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field

Work Environment

• Position based in Ontario, California
• Work performed in a collaborative engineering and drafting environment
• Occasional coordination with remote field teams supporting airport infrastructure projects
