About The Role
Rincon Consultants, Inc. is seeking an entry-level GIS Analyst to join our Data and Technology Services team in support of our Utilities Program, with a focus on energy, infrastructure, and environmental projects. In this role, you will support project teams by managing GIS datasets, creating custom maps, performing spatial analyses, supporting field data collection workflows, and configuring web GIS tools using ArcGIS Online, Survey123, Field Maps, and Experience Builder. This is a great opportunity for someone who is early in their GIS career and interested in applying geospatial tools to real-world utility, energy, and environmental planning challenges.

This role may offer a hybrid work setup, blending time in the office with remote work as business needs evolve. We enjoy coming together in person to collaborate, connect with teammates, and partner with clients, and may prioritize candidates who live within 50 miles of a Rincon office. Eligible office locations for this role include San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Carlsbad, San Diego and Ventura.
What You'll Do
  • Support GIS tasks for energy, utility, infrastructure, and environmental projects, including data development, mapping, spatial analysis, field data collection, and web GIS deliverables.
  • Produce high-quality GIS products, including custom maps, reports, and interactive web maps using ArcGIS Online and other tools.
  • Organize, update, and validate geospatial and attribute data, resolving discrepancies using scripts, queries, or research.
  • Perform spatial analyses, such as buffering, overlays, and distance calculations, following standard methodologies.
  • Design, test, and implement GIS tools and applications, including custom field tools within the Esri suite.
  • Troubleshoot GIS software, GPS equipment, and digital tools while providing training to staff on their use.
  • Integrate and manage GIS and CAD data using platforms like Autodesk for seamless project workflows.
  • Maintain geospatial databases by cleaning and converting data into GIS-ready formats, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Use AI-enabled tools responsibly to support GIS workflows, documentation, research, and quality control, while following company policies, client requirements, and data security guidelines.
  • Support workflow improvements using Microsoft 365 and Power Platform tools, where appropriate, including dashboards, forms, automations, and reporting workflows.
  • Stay updated on GIS trends and technologies to improve workflows and solve technical challenges.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Cartography, Environmental Science, or a related field, or a GIS certificate from an accredited institution.
  • At least 1 year of environmental consulting experience in the A/E/C industry, including applicable government role related to A/E/C projects.
  • Proficiency with GIS tools and applications, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal, Server), Survey123, Field Maps, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to learn new GIS, data management, AI-enabled, and productivity tools while following established procedures, documentation standards, and company technology policies.
  • Familiarity with publicly available GIS data sources.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Desired:
  • Experience or coursework related to energy, utilities, infrastructure, environmental planning, or public agency projects.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform tools, including Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps, or SharePoint Lists.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $65,000-$75,000, plus a generous benefits program. Salary ranges are based on the market median of similar jobs, according to third-party salary benchmark surveys. Base pay is determined based on internal equity and a candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
