We are seeking a motivated Field Utility Services - Field Technician to support utility infrastructure documentation and field data collection services using various field data capture tools and related reality capture platforms. This position is responsible for capturing high-quality geospatial imagery, utility asset data, and field observations to support engineering, construction, utility mapping, and asset management projects.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working outdoors, around vehicular traffic, and interested in technology-driven field operations. This is an entry-level to early-career position with opportunities for advancement in engineering, design, surveying, and project management.
Responsibilities
  • Operate scanning and reality capture equipment to collect utility asset and infrastructure data.
  • Capture georeferenced imagery and field documentation for utility, telecommunications, transportation, and civil infrastructure projects.
  • Perform field data collection activities along utility corridors, rights-of-way, roadways, and construction sites.
  • Verify asset locations and document field conditions using mobile applications and GIS-enabled platforms.
  • Upload, organize, and maintain project data in accordance with company quality standards.
  • Assist senior field staff with utility investigations, site assessments, and infrastructure documentation.
  • Record measurements, field notes, photographs, and observations during project activities.
  • Support utility mapping and asset inventory projects through accurate data capture and reporting.
  • Interpreted utility mapping records and as-builts
  • Perform routine equipment inspections, maintenance, and operational checks.
  • Adhere to company safety policies, local regulations, and project-specific requirements.
  • Maintain communication with project managers and field supervisors regarding project progress and field conditions.
  • Adhere and work around traffic control setup and site safety procedures when required.

Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Geomatics, Construction Management, GIS, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with utility locating, surveying, or infrastructure documentation.
  • Familiarity with GPS/GNSS data collection equipment.
  • Experience working in utility, telecommunications, construction, or engineering environments.
  • Knowledge of underground utility infrastructure and utility safety practices.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk long distances across varying terrain.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform field activities for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely enter active construction and utility work environments.

Work Environment
  • Primarily field-based position.
  • Frequent travel to project locations.
  • Work may occur near roadways, utility infrastructure, and active construction sites.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required based on project needs.

The pay range for this California position is $25- $28 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162.
