Remote Genetic Engineering information

What is remote genetic engineering?

Remote genetic engineering refers to the process of manipulating or editing genes in organisms from a distance, often using digital tools, cloud-based platforms, and automated laboratory equipment. This approach allows scientists and researchers to design experiments, analyze data, and even control lab robots without being physically present in the laboratory. Remote genetic engineering has become more feasible with advances in biotechnology, robotics, and secure data transmission, increasing accessibility and collaboration across the globe.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote genetic engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Genetic Engineer, you need a solid background in molecular biology, genetics, and biotechnology, typically supported by an advanced degree in a related field. Familiarity with bioinformatics tools, CRISPR/Cas9 systems, and data analysis software is essential for conducting and interpreting genetic experiments remotely. Strong problem-solving, self-motivation, and effective virtual communication skills help in collaborating with distributed teams and managing independent projects. These competencies are crucial for ensuring accurate research outcomes and seamless teamwork in a remote, technology-driven environment.

How do remote genetic engineering professionals typically collaborate with laboratory teams and manage hands-on experiments from a distance?

Remote genetic engineering professionals often work closely with on-site laboratory staff by leveraging digital collaboration tools, virtual lab management platforms, and detailed experiment protocols. They may design experiments, analyze data, and oversee project progress remotely, while on-site colleagues perform the physical lab work. Regular video meetings, shared cloud documentation, and real-time data monitoring help ensure clear communication and seamless project execution. This setup requires strong organizational skills and proactive communication to overcome challenges related to distance and time zones.

Are remote genetic engineers in demand?

Remote genetic engineering roles are increasingly in demand due to advancements in biotechnology, gene editing tools like CRISPR, and the growth of digital collaboration platforms. Employers seek professionals with expertise in molecular biology, bioinformatics, and laboratory techniques, often requiring advanced degrees and specialized skills. The field offers opportunities across research, healthcare, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals, with remote work becoming more common as technology enables virtual collaboration.

Who hires remote genetic engineers?

Remote genetic engineers are typically hired by biotechnology companies, pharmaceutical firms, research institutions, and biotech startups that focus on genetic research and development. These roles often require knowledge of molecular biology, bioinformatics, and laboratory techniques, with some positions offering flexible or fully remote work arrangements.

Job Description

About FIS

Are you curious, motivated, and forward-thinking? At FIS you'll have the opportunity to work on some of the most challenging and relevant issues in financial services and technology. Our talented people empower us, and we believe in being part of a team that is open, collaborative, entrepreneurial, passionate and above all fun.

About the Role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you are an embedded, AI-native engineer who works directly alongside clients to design, build, and ship AI and agentic solutions in production.

This is not a traditional deployment or implementation role - you operate at the seam between business intent and applied AI, translating real client problems into working systems built with LLMs, agent workflows, and modern AI tooling.

Success is measured by production AI adoption, measurable business outcomes, and how fast you can take a concept from proof-of-concept to live deployment.

This position is open to remote within the U.S.

This position may require 25% travel within the U.S. (subject to change)

What You Will Be Doing

  • Embed with clients to identify high-value AI and agentic use cases and turn them into production-grade solutions.

  • Rapidly design and build AI-powered POCs and POVs across the full stack - data pipelines, LLM/model integration, agent workflows, and application interfaces.

  • Integrate AI agents into existing enterprise systems, APIs, and data sources.

  • Own AI solutions end-to-end - prototyping, deployment, iteration, and handoff into operations.

  • Build in guardrails appropriate to regulated environments - human-in-the-loop review, logging, evaluation, and observability.

  • Partner with product and engineering teams to define success metrics and prove measurable AI-driven business impact.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across AI systems, integrations, and environments.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers building AI-native delivery capability.

  • Document and contribute reusable AI patterns, accelerators, and lessons back into the broader engineering practice.

What you bring

  • Advanced expertise in AI/agentic solution deployment, systems integration, and technical delivery.

  • Hands-on experience with LLMs, RAG, and/or agentic frameworks. (e.g.,LangChain,LangGraph, or equivalent)

  • Strong programming or scripting skills. (Python, Java, or similar)

  • Experience working with APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-based architectures.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across multiple systems.

  • Strong client-facing communication skills with the ability to translate AI capability into business value.

  • Experience leading technical delivery across multiple projects or enterprise environments.

  • Knowledge of security, data privacy, and compliance considerations for AI systems.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or skills-based equivalent.

Bonus if you have

  • Experience in financial services, fintech, payments, or banking platforms.

  • Experience withMLOps/LLMOps, evaluation frameworks, and observability tooling.

  • Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.

  • Experience with containerization or orchestration technologies.

  • Prior consulting, forward-deployed, or solutions-engineering experience in AI delivery.

What we offer you

  • A competitive salary and benefits.

  • Varied and challenging work to help you grow your technical skillset.

  • A multifaceted job with a high degree of responsibility and a broad spectrum of opportunities.

  • A modern, international work environment and a dedicated and motivated team.
