Job description

Bookkeeper/Account Manager - Great flexibility!

Location: Portland-Metro area - remote flexibility

Salary: $24-31 an hour

About the Role

This position serves as both a technical operational specialist and a primary client relationship manager for a dynamic, modern accounting group. As the Bookkeeper & Account Manager, you will handle full-cycle bookkeeping, including transaction categorization, balance sheet reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, and 1099 tracking, while acting as the main point of contact for a portfolio of clients. This role balances hands-on general ledger work with leading client onboarding calls, recurring check-ins, and financial advisory sessions.

We’re looking for a self-motivated, grounded professional who carries themselves with a steady energy and fits an open, collaborative culture where owning results and continuous learning are valued. You will serve as a bridge between internal technical workflows and client leaders, translating complex financial details into clear, supportive, and accessible guidance that helps clients focus on growing their organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full-Cycle Bookkeeping: Record monthly transactions, prepare general journal entries, process accounts payable and receivable, and reconcile bank and credit card accounts.
  • Client Account Management: Act as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, leading onboarding calls, regularly scheduled check-in meetings, and client advisory sessions.
  • Financial Reporting & Maintenance: Prepare and deliver monthly financial packages, maintain updated client process documentation, manage secure passwords, and track annual W-9/1099 compliance.
  • Technical Translation: Filter technical accounting queries from team members and communicate questions to clients in a positive, clear, and solutions-oriented manner.
  • Special Projects: Execute annual cleanup tasks, financial report preparation for tax filing, and tailored client projects within designated timeframes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with internal bookkeeping and operations teams to share client feedback, streamline workflows, and ensure high-quality service delivery.

Requirements

  • Active QuickBooks Online (QBO) ProAdvisor certification is required, or must obtain during the onboarding process and renew annually.
  • Proven prior experience in full-cycle bookkeeping, account reconciliation, and financial report preparation.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, prior history in a client-facing or account management role preferred.
  • High degree of self-management, personal accountability, and time-management skills to run projects independently under limited supervision.
  • Ability to translate technical accounting concepts into accessible, clear language for non-finance business owners.
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and skill development.
