What is a remote front end engineer?

Remote Front End Engineers are software developers who specialize in building the user-facing parts of websites and web applications while working from a location outside of a traditional office. They use technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create interactive and visually appealing interfaces that users interact with directly. Working remotely, they collaborate with teams via online communication tools and are often responsible for ensuring that web applications are responsive, accessible, and performant across different devices and browsers.

How do remote front end engineers typically collaborate with design and back-end teams to ensure seamless project delivery?

Remote Front End Engineers often use collaborative tools like Slack, Jira, and Figma to communicate effectively with both design and back-end teams. Regular virtual meetings and clear documentation help bridge the gap caused by physical distance. Engineers are expected to participate in code reviews, provide feedback on UI/UX designs, and coordinate API integrations to ensure a smooth workflow. Clear communication and proactive engagement with team members are key to overcoming challenges that arise from remote collaboration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote front end engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Front End Engineer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks like React or Angular, often supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp. Familiarity with version control systems (such as Git), build tools, and UI/UX design principles is typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills are crucial for effective remote collaboration and project delivery. These competencies ensure high-quality, maintainable user interfaces and seamless teamwork in a distributed environment.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Frontend Developer (React & React Native) based in Netherlands.

This role is an opportunity for an experienced frontend engineer to build and evolve modern web and mobile experiences using React and React Native.
You will contribute to stable, long-term projects with an active pipeline of new front-office features and continuous technical improvements.
Your work will span user interface development, code refactoring, performance optimization, testing, and cross-platform mobile development.
You will help translate business requirements into robust technical solutions while ensuring applications remain scalable, maintainable, and performant.
The position combines hands-on engineering with close collaboration across teams and requires strong ownership in a dynamic environment.
You will have the opportunity to improve existing products while introducing new technologies, patterns, and development practices.
This is a strong fit for a proactive senior engineer who enjoys solving complex frontend challenges and continuously expanding their technical expertise.

Accountabilities
  • Assess business requirements from a technical perspective and determine practical implementation approaches within reasonable timelines.
  • Develop new user interface components and enhance existing web applications using modern React and TypeScript patterns.
  • Build and maintain responsive, high-quality websites and front-office features.
  • Participate in mobile application development using React Native, including cross-platform solutions and reusable software development kits (SDKs).
  • Refactor and optimize existing code to improve maintainability, scalability, and overall application quality.
  • Optimize frontend components and applications for strong performance across different browsers and devices.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve bugs across existing projects and production environments.
  • Work with state management solutions such as Redux, MobX, or Zustand to create reliable and maintainable application architectures.
  • Integrate and work with RESTful and GraphQL APIs as part of frontend and mobile application development.
  • Implement and maintain automated tests using tools such as Jest and Cypress.
  • Contribute to frontend build processes, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, and modern development workflows.
  • Collaborate proactively with team members and communicate technical considerations, progress, challenges, and solutions clearly.
  • Continuously improve development processes and contribute ideas that enhance engineering efficiency and product quality.
  • Adapt to changing priorities, learn new technologies quickly, and contribute effectively in a dynamic environment.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of professional experience as a Frontend Engineer or JavaScript Developer.
  • Strong foundation in pure JavaScript and extensive experience building modern frontend applications.
  • Advanced proficiency with React 18+, including hooks, context, and modern React development patterns.
  • Expert-level TypeScript experience, including advanced types and strict configuration environments.
  • Strong knowledge of state management technologies such as Redux, MobX, Zustand, or comparable solutions.
  • Proven experience building Single-Page Applications (SPAs) and Progressive Web Applications (PWAs).
  • Strong experience integrating RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
  • Familiarity with modern frontend build tools such as Webpack, Vite, and Rollup, as well as CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of browser rendering behavior and frontend performance optimization.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, or equivalent technologies.
  • 1-2+ years of professional React Native development experience.
  • Hands-on experience developing React Native Software Development Kits (SDKs) for cross-platform applications.
  • Upper-Intermediate English proficiency or higher.
  • Experience with micro frontends, monorepos, or component libraries such as Storybook or Bit is a plus.
  • Knowledge of design systems and technologies such as Material UI, Tailwind, or similar frameworks is a plus.
  • Exposure to WebAssembly, WebSockets, or real-time applications is a plus.
  • Experience integrating third-party tools and libraries is a plus.
  • Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into clear, practical technical requirements.
  • Strong adaptability and ability to remain effective when priorities change.
  • Proactive communication style, strong ownership, and willingness to take initiative.
  • Fast-learning mindset and enthusiasm for acquiring new technical knowledge.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary aligned with experience and technical expertise.
  • Fully remote work, with office access available in locations where company offices are established.
  • Flexible work schedule focused on performance and outcomes rather than time tracking.
  • Unlimited paid vacation and sick leave.
  • Ongoing career development and learning opportunities.
  • International team environment built around respect, collaboration, and shared goals.
  • Flat organizational structure with minimal bureaucracy and significant employee autonomy.
  • Corporate parties and team-building events throughout the year.
  • Employee referral bonus after a referred employee successfully completes their probation period.
  • Private medical insurance compensation, with full or partial reimbursement depending on the cost.
  • Flexible Benefits plan allowing employees to choose eligible activities or expenses for reimbursement, such as gym memberships, language courses, streaming subscriptions, or wellness activities.
