What are Remote Front End Engineers?

Remote Front End Engineers are software developers who specialize in building the user-facing parts of websites and web applications while working from a location outside of a traditional office. They use technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create interactive and visually appealing interfaces that users interact with directly. Working remotely, they collaborate with teams via online communication tools and are often responsible for ensuring that web applications are responsive, accessible, and performant across different devices and browsers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Front End Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Front End Engineer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks like React or Angular, often supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp. Familiarity with version control systems (such as Git), build tools, and UI/UX design principles is typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills are crucial for effective remote collaboration and project delivery. These competencies ensure high-quality, maintainable user interfaces and seamless teamwork in a distributed environment.

What is the difference between Remote Front End Engineer vs Remote Web Developer?

Remote Web Developers may handle both front-end and some back-end tasks, with a broader scope in website development. While both roles require similar technical skills, the Front End Engineer role emphasizes UI/UX and interactive features, making it more specialized in front-end technologies.

How do Remote Front End Engineers typically collaborate with design and back-end teams to ensure seamless project delivery?

Remote Front End Engineers often use collaborative tools like Slack, Jira, and Figma to communicate effectively with both design and back-end teams. Regular virtual meetings and clear documentation help bridge the gap caused by physical distance. Engineers are expected to participate in code reviews, provide feedback on UI/UX designs, and coordinate API integrations to ensure a smooth workflow. Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Head of Frontend Development (iGaming) based in Netherlands.

Lead the frontend vision and engineering strategy behind a large-scale portfolio of digital gaming products while building the foundation of a new B2B platform from the ground up. In this role, you'll take full ownership of frontend architecture, driving technical excellence, scalability, and performance across complex user-facing applications. You'll lead and inspire a distributed team of 20-25 frontend engineers, including senior developers and team leads, while fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement. Working closely with product, design, backend, and DevOps teams, you'll transform business requirements into fast, reliable, and engaging user experiences. This is an opportunity for a senior technology leader to shape engineering practices, introduce innovation, and make a significant impact in a global remote environment.

Accountabilities
  • Own the overall frontend architecture strategy for existing B2C digital platforms, ensuring scalability, security, performance, and maintainability.
  • Lead the development of a new, scalable B2B platform frontend from the ground up using modern technologies and engineering practices.
  • Manage, mentor, and inspire a distributed frontend engineering organization of 20-25 developers, including team leads and senior engineers.
  • Establish frontend standards, architectural guidelines, coding practices, and quality processes through effective reviews and technical leadership.
  • Drive optimization initiatives to ensure high performance, low latency, and reliable user experiences across high-traffic applications.
  • Champion the adoption of AI-powered tools and innovative approaches to improve engineering efficiency and product development.
  • Collaborate closely with product, design, backend, and DevOps teams to deliver seamless, real-time customer experiences.
  • Build a culture of accountability, psychological safety, knowledge sharing, and continuous professional growth across the engineering organization.
  • Ensure frontend systems are designed for efficient deployment and scaling within modern cloud environments.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience leading frontend engineering teams, ideally managing distributed teams of 20+ engineers through team leads and senior developers.
  • Strong technical expertise in JavaScript, React, and modern frontend development practices.
  • Experience designing and optimizing high-performance frontend applications handling large traffic volumes and real-time data updates.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-based frontend infrastructure, particularly AWS services such as CloudFront, S3, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience making architectural decisions, defining engineering standards, and driving technical excellence across teams.
  • Familiarity with SvelteKit is highly desirable.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across product, design, backend, and infrastructure teams.
  • Strong leadership, communication, mentoring, and organizational skills with experience working in remote, multicultural environments.
  • Experience in the iGaming, casino, entertainment, or other high-scale consumer-facing industries is a strong advantage.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to balance technical vision, business priorities, and team development.
Benefits
  • Fully remote position with the flexibility to work from anywhere in Europe.
  • Opportunity to lead frontend strategy for large-scale B2C products and a new B2B platform.
  • High level of ownership and influence over architecture, engineering practices, and team culture.
  • Collaboration with a global, distributed team of technology professionals.
  • 28 days of paid time off plus public holidays.
  • Comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees, including private health insurance, wellness allowance, and communication allowance.
  • Regular social events and team activities.
  • Employee discounts with selected restaurants and businesses.
  • Extended second-parent leave policy.
  • Private parking space where applicable.
  • Fast-paced environment focused on innovation, learning, and meaningful technical challenges.
