What is a remote front end engineer?

Remote Front End Engineers are software developers who specialize in building the user-facing parts of websites and web applications while working from a location outside of a traditional office. They use technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create interactive and visually appealing interfaces that users interact with directly. Working remotely, they collaborate with teams via online communication tools and are often responsible for ensuring that web applications are responsive, accessible, and performant across different devices and browsers.

How do remote front end engineers typically collaborate with design and back-end teams to ensure seamless project delivery?

Remote Front End Engineers often use collaborative tools like Slack, Jira, and Figma to communicate effectively with both design and back-end teams. Regular virtual meetings and clear documentation help bridge the gap caused by physical distance. Engineers are expected to participate in code reviews, provide feedback on UI/UX designs, and coordinate API integrations to ensure a smooth workflow. Clear communication and proactive engagement with team members are key to overcoming challenges that arise from remote collaboration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote front end engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Front End Engineer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks like React or Angular, often supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp. Familiarity with version control systems (such as Git), build tools, and UI/UX design principles is typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills are crucial for effective remote collaboration and project delivery. These competencies ensure high-quality, maintainable user interfaces and seamless teamwork in a distributed environment.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Frontend) based in Netherlands.

Join a fully remote product engineering team building web experiences used by more than 11 million people worldwide.
You'll take ownership of user-facing features from technical design through implementation and release, with a strong influence on the final product experience.
The role combines deep frontend engineering with close collaboration across Product and Design to turn complex workflows into intuitive experiences.
You'll help shape frontend architecture, improve performance and reliability, and evolve the platform as it continues to scale.
Working in a small, collaborative team, you'll have significant autonomy over technical decisions and opportunities to influence product direction.
The environment encourages curiosity, entrepreneurship, constructive challenge, and a strong focus on users and product quality.
This is an opportunity for a senior engineer who wants meaningful ownership and visible impact while working with modern web technologies.

Accountabilities
  • Build, maintain, and evolve user-facing features across web-based products used by a global audience.
  • Design and implement frontend architecture, reusable UI components, and business logic for new and existing functionality.
  • Partner closely with Product and Design teams to transform complex requirements and workflows into simple, intuitive user experiences.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of features, from technical discovery and design through implementation, testing, and release.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and overall code quality.
  • Improve frontend reliability, maintainability, scalability, and performance as the platform grows.
  • Identify technical and product opportunities and explore new technologies that can improve the user experience or engineering environment.
  • Contribute to architectural and technical decisions while balancing product requirements, usability, maintainability, and delivery needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a highly autonomous environment.
  • Help shape the broader direction and quality of the product beyond individual tickets or assigned tasks.
Requirements
  • Strong professional experience with JavaScript and TypeScript.
  • Deep production experience with React and modern frontend architecture.
  • Strong understanding of modern ECMAScript standards and browser technologies.
  • Experience working with frontend state management systems and scalable application architectures.
  • Practical experience with CSS preprocessors such as LESS or SASS.
  • Sufficient backend knowledge to work comfortably with Node.js, REST APIs, and relational or NoSQL databases.
  • Experience working in modern engineering environments involving technologies such as AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux, and continuous deployment.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, frontend performance, maintainability, and reliability.
  • High attention to product quality, user experience, and implementation details.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership, and make sound technical decisions with limited oversight.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with Product, Design, Engineering, and other stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset: proactive, pragmatic, and comfortable taking responsibility for outcomes.
  • Curiosity and a continuous-learning mindset, with an interest in understanding systems deeply and finding ways to improve them.
  • Empathy toward users and teammates, combined with a constructive and collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience with additional programming languages or broader full-stack development is a plus.
Benefits
  • Fully remote position within Europe.
  • Full-time employment.
  • Opportunity to work on products used by more than 11 million people globally.
  • High degree of ownership and direct influence over product and technical decisions.
  • Small-team environment with a flat organizational structure.
  • Close collaboration with Product, Design, Engineering, and company leadership.
  • Opportunity to influence the evolution of both the product and its underlying technical platform.
  • Equity participation, providing an opportunity to share in the company's long-term growth.
  • Equipment and technology provided to support effective remote work.
  • Product-focused, startup-style environment with significant autonomy.
  • Opportunity to work with modern frontend and cloud technologies while solving complex product challenges.
