The Opportunity

USAA's Bank Fraud Risk Governance and Strategy team is seeking a highly skilled Risk and Compliance Advisor - Fraud Risk to help protect the organization from fraud-related threats. In this role, you will leverage your experience in banking operations and fraud risk to assess processes, design and implement effective controls, and support performance reporting and risk management strategies. You will play a key role in strengthening the organization's fraud prevention framework while ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and business objectives.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and highly organized professional with strong critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze complex risks. You will be responsible for clearly communicating findings and presenting complex issues to leadership, requiring excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by driving risk awareness, improving controls, and enhancing the organization's overall fraud risk posture.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: Charlotte NC, San Antonio TX, Plano Tx, Tampa FL and Phoenix, AZ.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Partners with key team members in the business to identify, assess, aggregate and document risk and compliance controls, including risks associated with new or modified products, services, distribution channels, regulations, and third-party operations.
  • Communicates results of risk and compliance work to governance committees, business process owners and various levels of leadership.
  • Contributes to the implementation of new risk and compliance policies, practices, appetites, and solutions to ensure multidisciplinary understanding and management of risks according to industry standard process.
  • Implements assigned risk or compliance activities in accordance with enterprise policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and expands knowledge of the competitive/regulatory landscape and the company's key challenges. Reviews laws and regulations for business impact and makes proposals for awareness and action.
  • May coordinate and respond to regulatory requirements and requests and ensures the execution of examinations.
  • Performs work on risk and compliance processes that focus on improving strategies, tools, and methodologies to measure, monitor, and report risks.
  • Applies knowledge to assess data and produce analytical insights to understand business objectives, drive business decisions and influence solution strategies.
  • Actively contributes in cross-functional teams to identify, assess, aggregate, and mitigate current and emerging risk events.
  • Contributes to stress test plans for a line of business or the enterprise including the evaluation of results and framing of contingency plans in partnership with key business partners.

Experiences that will support your success:

  • 4 years relevant experience in risk, compliance, legal or audit within the financial services or insurance industry or specialized technical fields directly related to the role.
  • Risk and/or compliance experience in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Knowledge of compliance laws, regulations, and regulatory expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply regulatory risk and compliance knowledge to consult and provide guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively challenge in business or team settings.
  • Ability to effectively work with internal and external partners in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools and techniques and decision-making abilities to effectively recommend data-driven solutions.

What sets you apart:

  • Regulatory Expertise: Minimum of 2 years of experience in regulatory compliance, with a strong understanding of industry regulations and data sources from agencies such as the OCC, Federal Reserve, and CFPB.
  • Fraud & BSA/AML Experience: Demonstrated experience in fraud and Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) practices.
  • Second Line of Defense (SLOD): Experience working within the Second Line of Defense and/or in fraud oversight functions.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Ability to research and analyze large datasets, synthesizing findings into clear, actionable insights for assessments and reports.
  • Adaptability: Proven success in highly dynamic and rapidly changing environments.
  • Strong Soft Skills: Excellent critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
  • Proactive Learner: Self-starter capable of independently acquiring new skills through hands-on experience, with a strong sense of ownership in driving tasks to completion.
  • Certifications: Industry certifications such as ABA, CFE, ACAMS, or similar credentials within the fraud risk domain are preferred.
  • Military Experience: U.S. military service or experience as a military spouse or domestic partner is valued.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $85,040 - $162,550.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
