Job Description:
Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Trenchless Practice Lead with a background in trenchless design for new installations and rehabilitation to support our Tunnel Business Unit. We are looking for a motivated candidate to grow our trenchless business who has attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional and mentor staff, and a desire to be part of a strong team. Candidates will lead business development, project management, and staff management for design and construction phase support of trenchless projects.
Commuting to project sites and client offices to support project assignments and business development efforts is required for this position. Candidates may work remotely from home or out of existing Schnabel offices dependent on project and staff needs.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead the planning, design, and construction phase support services for new trenchless installations and trenchless rehabilitation projects.
  • Manage trenchless and tunnel projects including scope, schedule, budget, and client relations.
  • Collaborate with and lead multidiscipline and multi-location internal and external teams.
  • Perform and/or supervise geotechnical and trenchless design analyses
  • Manage development of designs for new trenchless installations and trenchless rehabilitations, tunnels, shafts, excavation support, and other underground facilities including preparation of calculations and design reports, plans, specifications, reports, and other project contract documents.
  • Prepare proposals including approach narratives, level of effort estimates, and client coordination.
  • Mentor and train junior staff.
  • Lead business development efforts to pursue trenchless design projects across the country and support growth of Schnabel's trenchless practice. Previous experience with business development and involvement with professional organizations is a plus.

Required Skills/Experience:
  • Bachelors Degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited school of engineering (Masters Degree preferred).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer and ability to extend licensure to other US states through reciprocity
  • Minimum of 15 years tunnel engineering experience with a strong trenchless background with significant practical experience on tunnel and underground construction projects. Strong candidates with less experience and a proven track record may be considered.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with analyses for trenchless projects including ground settlement due to trenchless construction, construction impacts analyses, shaft design/construction, liner design, inadvertent fluid release, bore path design, dewatering, estimating face pressure, ground improvement, geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD/CIVIL3D, MathCAD, STAAD, SAP, RISA, RSA, GeoStudio, Plaxis, FLAC, and Revit software is a plus, but not required.
  • Periodic travel for projects, conferences, meetings, and other responsibilities is required and anticipated to be up to 25%.
  • Ability to work on active or potential construction sites including site work that may involve work in underground spaces, above slopes and shafts, over rough terrain, and in remote locations.

The compensation range for this position is between $145,000 - $185,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
