Battery Modeling Internship information

What is a battery modeling internship?

A Battery Modeling Internship is a temporary position where students or recent graduates work with experts to develop and analyze mathematical models that predict the performance, behavior, and lifespan of batteries. Interns typically use software tools and scientific methods to simulate how batteries operate under different conditions. This experience helps interns gain practical skills in battery technology, data analysis, and computational modeling, which are valuable in the energy storage and electric vehicle industries.

What types of projects or tasks can I expect to work on during a battery modeling internship?

As a Battery Modeling Intern, you will typically work on projects involving the simulation, analysis, and optimization of battery systems using specialized software tools. Your daily tasks may include developing mathematical models, analyzing battery performance data, and assisting with experimental validation of models. Collaboration with research scientists, engineers, and other interns is common, providing opportunities to contribute to multidisciplinary teams. These experiences help you build practical skills and gain valuable exposure to cutting-edge battery technologies in both academic and industry settings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a battery modeling intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Battery Modeling Intern, you need a strong background in electrochemistry, mathematics, and engineering, often supported by coursework or a degree in chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering. Familiarity with simulation tools such as MATLAB, COMSOL Multiphysics, or Python, as well as knowledge of battery management systems and modeling software, is typically required. Critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork are essential soft skills in this role. These competencies enable accurate battery model development, efficient collaboration on research projects, and innovative solutions to complex energy storage challenges.

What is the difference between Battery Modeling Internship vs Battery Design Engineer?

About Solidion

Solidion Technology (Nasdaq: STI) is a development-stage advanced battery materials company, with corporate headquarters in Dallas and R&D and pilot production operations in Dayton, OH. As we pursue strategic growth across the energy storage value chain, we are building out a corporate development function focused on acquisitions and partnerships in energy storage and adjacent industries.

The Role

We're seeking motivated undergraduate or graduate students to support our M&A and corporate development efforts. This is a hands-on internship offering direct exposure to live deal sourcing, financial analysis, and transaction work at a publicly traded company. Local Dallas-area students are encouraged to apply.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain target pipelines, market maps, and competitive landscape analyses
  • Conduct industry and company research to support investment theses
  • Assist with financial modeling, valuation analysis, and data gathering for due diligence
  • Prepare summary materials and internal presentations for the deal team
  • Support ad hoc analysis for the CFO and corporate development team

What We're Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel; familiarity with financial modeling a plus
  • Interest in energy storage, clean tech, batteries, or industrial M&A
  • Attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to work independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work in-office in downtown Dallas
