Working for remote-first companies can present challenges such as feelings of isolation, difficulty in communication across time zones, and maintaining work-life balance. Employees can overcome these by proactively engaging in virtual team meetings, using collaboration tools effectively, and establishing a dedicated workspace at home. Many remote-first organizations also encourage regular check-ins and virtual social events to foster connection and teamwork. By being intentional about communication and setting clear boundaries, employees can thrive in a remote-first environment.

This means that most work is designed to be done from anywhere, with physical office spaces being optional or used primarily for collaboration when necessary. Job description

About Nucs AI

Nucs AI is revolutionizing cancer care through cutting-edge AI and medical imaging technology. Founded in 2024 by a multidisciplinary team of oncologists, AI researchers, and healthcare innovators, weโ€™re tackling one of medicineโ€™s most pressing challenges: the growing demand for accurate, timely cancer diagnostics in the face of rising scan volumes and limited radiologist capacity.

We sit at the intersection of diagnostics and treatment planningโ€”building AI-powered tools at the convergence of medical imaging, radioligand therapy, and artificial intelligence. Starting with prostate cancer and expanding across oncology, we partner with world-leading medical institutions and pharmaceutical companies across the US, Europe, and Australia to bring precision oncology into everyday clinical practice.

Our mission is to enhance diagnostic precision and expand access to expert-level cancer care, improving patient outcomes worldwide. Weโ€™re venture-backed, early-stage, and building a team that blends deep clinical expertise with engineering intensityโ€”moving with the rigor the medical field demands and the speed the problem deserves.

The Opportunity

Nucs AI is scaling from a founding team to a structured, high-performing organizationโ€”and the people infrastructure has to scale with it. This is a fractional role for an experienced HR leader who can build the foundations: hiring practices, onboarding, compliance, culture, and compensation frameworks.

This is a hands-on role for someone who has built HR functions at early-stage companies and knows how to balance structure with the flexibility a startup demands. Youโ€™ll work directly with leadership to ensure we attract, retain, and support exceptional talent as we grow.

What Youโ€™ll DoPeople Operations & Infrastructure
  • Design and implement core HR processes: onboarding, offboarding, performance management, and employee lifecycle management

  • Establish compensation and benefits frameworks appropriate for an early-stage, globally distributed team

  • Build and maintain HR policies and an employee handbook that reflect our values and comply with applicable regulations

Talent Acquisition & Retention
  • Partner with hiring managers to define roles, run structured interview processes, and close candidates

  • Develop employer branding and recruiting strategies that attract top talent in MedTech and AI

  • Implement retention strategies including engagement programs, growth frameworks, and feedback mechanisms

Compliance & Culture
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws across relevant jurisdictions (US, international contractors)

  • Advise leadership on organizational design, team structure, and workforce planning

  • Champion a culture of transparency, accountability, and inclusion as the team grows

What You Bring
  • 8+ years of HR experience, including building people functions at early-stage or high-growth startups

  • Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance, and HR best practices across US jurisdictions

  • Experience designing compensation, equity, and benefits programs for startups

  • Proven ability to recruit technical and clinical talent in competitive markets

  • Excellent interpersonal and advisory skills; trusted counsel to founders and leadership

Bonus Points
  • Experience in MedTech, healthcare, or AI/ML companies

  • Familiarity with international contractor and employment arrangements

  • SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent certification

  • Experience supporting companies through fundraising-driven hiring surges

Why Nucs AI
  • Mission with real impact  โ€“ Your work directly improves how cancer patients are diagnosed and treated.

  • Ground-floor opportunity  โ€“ Early-stage company, meaningful equity, and outsized influence on the direction we take.

  • World-class collaborators  โ€“ Work alongside leading oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and AI researchers globally.

  • Massive market tailwinds  โ€“ Radioligand therapy and AI-driven oncology are multi-billion dollar growth markets.

  • Autonomy and flexibility  โ€“ Remote-first, flexible working. We hire great people and trust them to deliver.

  • Equity upside  โ€“ Competitive equity package. Weโ€™re building something big and want you to share in it.
