Position Overview

The Senior Project Cost Accountant/Controller plays a critical role in managing the financial integrity of large-scale, mission-critical construction projects.

This position is responsible for overseeing project cost accounting, tracking financial performance, and ensuring accurate reporting across multiple active project sites. The role partners closely with Project Controls, Procurement, and Finance leadership to support decision-making and maintain strong financial discipline across the build.

This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where accuracy, structure, and scalability are essential.


Key Responsibilities

Project Cost Accounting & Financial Management

  • Manage project cost accounting across multiple large-scale construction sites
  • Track capital expenditures, budgets, forecasts, and cost-to-complete
  • Ensure accurate cost allocation and adherence to established cost coding structures

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare work-in-progress (WIP) reports and project financial statements
  • Analyze cost performance and provide actionable insights to project and finance leadership
  • Support monthly close, accruals, and financial reporting

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Project Controls and Procurement to align cost tracking with contracts and execution
  • Review and validate subcontractor invoices, change orders, and coding accuracy
  • Support alignment between financial systems and project data

Process Development & Compliance

  • Develop and maintain scalable, auditable accounting processes and controls
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and construction accounting best practices
  • Support internal and external audits with accurate documentation

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 7+ years of project or cost accounting experience
  • Experience supporting construction, infrastructure, or large capital projects
  • Strong understanding of cost tracking, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Advanced Excel and ERP system experience (SAP, Oracle, or similar)

Preferred

  • CPA or CMA designation
  • Experience supporting projects exceeding $1B in value
  • Joint venture accounting experience
  • Background in fast-paced, high-growth environments
  • Strong process improvement and financial modeling capabilities

Location & Structure
  • Remote, with preference for Dallasโ€“Fort Worth or Houston, TX
  • Light travel as needed
  • Contract role with potential for long-term conversion
