Job description

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams - People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more - provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.

The Role

We are looking for a strategic, hands-on Systems Engineer to lead the next wave of finance technology transformation at Block. This role owns the architecture and scaling of the technology stack that powers our core financial engine across Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Procurement, and FP&A.

We operate with an AI-first engineering mindset. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in financial systems architecture (Oracle Fusion) combined with a product-thinking approach, utilizing AI-assisted development to automate financial workflows and compress delivery cycles. You will partner closely with business leaders, product managers, and data engineers to drive high-impact transformation across Oracle Fusion, in-house applications, integration platforms, and enterprise LLMs.

You will:
  • Drive AI-First Development: Embed AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot) into your daily workflow to accelerate code generation, automate testing, and elevate delivery velocity.
  • Architect Scalable Financial Solutions: Design and maintain robust data models and solution architectures across Oracle FAH, GL, SLA, and BIP to support complex accounting operations and downstream reporting.
  • Build Intelligent Integrations: Architect, build, and support seamless integrations between accounting systems, data lakes, and internal applications using SQL, PL/SQL and integration technologies (REST, SOAP, JSON).
  • Operational Excellence: Actively identify system inefficiencies and deploy automation to scale financial workflows, decoupling business growth from manual operational overhead.
  • Own Technical Execution: Translate complex accounting principles and business requirements into concrete, scalable technical designs and comprehensive documentation.
Qualifications:
  • Oracle Fusion Expertise: Proven hands-on experience configuring, customizing, and supporting Oracle FAH, GL, SLA, and BIP.
  • Data Engineering Skills: Strong proficiency in relational databases, advanced SQL/PL/SQL, and web services (SOAP, REST, JSON, XML).
  • Systems Architecture: Demonstrated experience in accounting process transformations, financial data modeling, and end-to-end solution architecture.
  • Pragmatic Problem Solver: Ability to navigate complex organizational dependencies, breaking down technical debt into streamlined, automated processes.
Nice to haves:
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java).
  • Experience navigating peripheral financial modules intersecting with accounting data (Tax, FCCS).
  • Previous experience in fintech, banking, or cryptocurrency platforms.
What will make you successful at Block:
  • The Player-Coach Mindset: You are as comfortable advising executives on Oracle's native AI capabilities as you are deep in the code deploying a fix.
  • Holistic Systems Thinking: Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Accounting, Data Engineering, and Integration teams to deliver unified, automated enterprise solutions.
  • Focus on Business Velocity: A relentless drive to leverage AI and platform automation to compress financial close cycles and expand operating margins
