What is remote film post production?

Remote film post production refers to the process of editing, color grading, sound mixing, and finalizing a film project using digital tools and collaboration platforms without requiring the team to be physically present in the same location. This approach leverages cloud-based software and secure file sharing to enable editors, sound designers, and other post-production professionals to work together from anywhere in the world. Remote post production has become increasingly popular due to its flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and ability to bring together talent from different locations. However, it also requires robust internet connections, clear communication, and secure workflows to ensure a smooth process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Remote Film Post Production, and why are they important?

To thrive in Remote Film Post Production, you need expertise in video editing, color grading, and sound design, often backed by a degree in film production or related field. Proficiency with industry-standard software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid Media Composer, and cloud-based collaboration tools is essential. Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities help facilitate remote teamwork and meet tight deadlines. These skills and qualities ensure high-quality deliverables, seamless collaboration, and the ability to adapt to the evolving demands of post-production workflows.

What are some common challenges faced when working in remote film post production, and how can they be addressed?

Remote film post production professionals often encounter challenges related to communication and file management, as large media files must be shared efficiently across distributed teams. Staying organized with project timelines and maintaining clear communication with editors, sound designers, and directors is crucial to ensuring everyone is aligned on creative goals. Utilizing cloud-based collaboration tools and secure file-sharing platforms can help mitigate technical hurdles, while regular video meetings and clear documentation foster a smooth workflow. Embracing these best practices helps maintain productivity and creative synergy, even when working from different locations.

Job description

B2B video is mostly forgettable. Safe cuts, stock music, talking heads. We're building something different - and we need a Lead Editor who's bothered by mediocre work.
Sweet Fish Media is a B2B video production company in Orlando, FL producing brand films, A.I. video ads, thought leadership content, commercial spots, testimonials, social series, and more for some of the most interesting companies in their respective categories. We move fast, we have strong opinions, and we're actively redefining what B2B video can look and feel like. This role is at the center of that.
THE ROLE
This is a three-pillar position:
1. Own the Post Production Pipeline
2. Lead the Editing Team & Freelance Flexforce
3. Define What Great B2B Video Looks Like
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Post Production Coordination
- Own the Master Production Workflow - tracking every active project through intake, edit, review, revision, and delivery across a high-volume client roster
- Build and enforce file structure, naming conventions, and archiving standards across all productions
- Serve as the post-production point of contact for producers - translating project needs into clear editorial direction
Leading the Editing Team & Freelance Flexforce
- Assign, direct, and give meaningful creative feedback to internal editors and a curated bench of freelance editors across simultaneous productions
- Set and uphold editorial standards - polished timelines, clean sequencing, proper pacing, and airtight asset delivery
- Review and quality-check edits before they reach clients - your sign-off means it's ready
- Identify gaps in the freelance bench and help source, evaluate, and onboard new freelance talent when needed
- Contribute to editor development - share technique, give directed notes, and help build a team that raises its own ceiling
Craft & Creative Leadership
- Edit across Sweet Fish's full video type roster: brand films, commercial spots, thought leadership videos, testimonials, case studies, social shorts, podcast video, product demos, event recaps, and even AI social content
- Drive storytelling decisions - structure narratives that are emotionally resonant, not just informationally competent
- Lead motion graphics involvement: create or art-direct graphic assets, lower thirds, kinetic type, and branded visual elements that feel intentional, not templated
- Push client work creatively - bring visual references, push edits past the first cut, and advocate for the version that's actually good
- Help develop and document Sweet Fish's editorial style standards as we expand into new video formats and categories
WHAT YOU BRING
Must-Haves
- 5+ years of professional editing experience with a portfolio that demonstrates range - B2B, branded content, agency work and A.I. video expertise strongly preferred
- Expert-level Premiere Pro and After Effects; comfortable across DaVinci Resolve, Frame.io, Descript, and AI video generation and editing tools
- A genuine understanding of storytelling structure - you know why a cut works, not just how to make it
- Experience leading or directing other editors, whether in-house or freelance
- Strong motion graphics sensibility - you can build clean, polished assets and know when design serves the story vs. distracts from it
- High operational bandwidth - you can hold the creative and the logistical at the same time, without letting either slip
- A reel that makes us stop scrolling
Strong Advantages
- Experience working in a production company or agency environment with multiple concurrent client projects
- Familiarity with Asana or similar project management workflows for post production
- Comfort with AI-assisted editing tools and utilizing AI across your workflow
- On-set experience - understanding how footage is captured makes you a better editor of it
SOFTWARE & TOOLS
- Premiere Pro (Primary NLE)
- After Effects (Motion & Graphics)
- DaVinci Resolve (Color / Offline)
- Frame.io (Review & Approval)
- Descript (AI-Assisted Editing, Transcription, Clip Selection)
- AI Tools (Higgsfield, Omni, Claude, Etc.)
THE WORKSPACE
This is a remote role - but it's not a casual one. We've built a workflow and a standard of excellence that doesn't bend, and that holds whether you're in a studio or in your home office. The bar is high, the accountability is real, and the work doesn't wait on anyone.
You're responsible for your own setup, and that setup matters. Our pipeline runs on multi-cam timelines, color-critical review, layered audio, and large project files moving fast across the team. You need a machine that keeps pace with the work - calibrated display, reliable monitoring, fast local storage, and the bandwidth to handle Frame.io reviews and live sessions without dropping out. If your rig can't carry the workflow, the workflow can't carry you.
You'll be working alongside Producers, a Director of Production, on-set production teams, and the freelance editor bench you help lead - collaborating over Slack, Frame.io, and live screen-share sessions throughout the week. Feedback is direct. Ideas are challenged here. Good ones win.
