Remote Film Post Production information

What is remote film post production?

Remote film post production refers to the process of editing, color grading, sound mixing, and finalizing a film project using digital tools and collaboration platforms without requiring the team to be physically present in the same location. This approach leverages cloud-based software and secure file sharing to enable editors, sound designers, and other post-production professionals to work together from anywhere in the world. Remote post production has become increasingly popular due to its flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and ability to bring together talent from different locations. However, it also requires robust internet connections, clear communication, and secure workflows to ensure a smooth process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote film post production?

To thrive in Remote Film Post Production, you need expertise in video editing, color grading, and sound design, often backed by a degree in film production or related field. Proficiency with industry-standard software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid Media Composer, and cloud-based collaboration tools is essential. Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities help facilitate remote teamwork and meet tight deadlines. These skills and qualities ensure high-quality deliverables, seamless collaboration, and the ability to adapt to the evolving demands of post-production workflows.

What are some common challenges faced when working in remote film post production, and how can they be addressed?

Remote film post production professionals often encounter challenges related to communication and file management, as large media files must be shared efficiently across distributed teams. Staying organized with project timelines and maintaining clear communication with editors, sound designers, and directors is crucial to ensuring everyone is aligned on creative goals. Utilizing cloud-based collaboration tools and secure file-sharing platforms can help mitigate technical hurdles, while regular video meetings and clear documentation foster a smooth workflow. Embracing these best practices helps maintain productivity and creative synergy, even when working from different locations.

About the Role:
As a key member of Tubi's Original Content team, you will manage production and post-production, maintaining comprehensive workflow oversight over a high-volume slate of projects. Serving as the primary technical and logistical facilitator from development through final delivery, you will ensure all content is executed on time, on budget, and to the highest creative and technical standards. In this role, you will facilitate cross-functional alignment, build budget and timeline frameworks, evaluate production partner capabilities, and maintain production company and vendor relationships. This is a hybrid role based out of our Los Angeles office.
What You'll Do:
Production & Post-Production Management
  • Team Management & Mentorship: Support and guide the day-to-day workflows of the production and post-production team, cultivating a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • End-to-End Lifecycle Ownership: Manage production and post-production pipelines, driving the execution of a fast-paced slate spanning live, scripted, and unscripted formats from greenlight through platform launch.
  • Pre-Production: Standardize and support readiness protocols prior to principal photography, optimizing kick-off frameworks, distribution setups, milestone cash flows, and cast/crew table reads.
  • Technical Quality Control & Troubleshooting: Evaluate and approve complex camera, lens, and technical capture packages during pre-production; actively audit dailies to proactively resolve technical or aesthetic issues before they impact post-production workflows.
  • On-Set Problem Solving & Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for resolving real-time production challenges and supporting crew needs on set.
  • Brand Safety & Compliance: Maintain on-set confidentiality and safety policies, ensuring external partners adhere to social media restrictions and branding guidelines.
  • Integration Partnerships: Coordinate the lifecycle of brand integration opportunities, collaborating with internal leads and on-set producers to secure precise asset capture and client feedback execution.
Budget Stewardship & Vendor Management
  • Rigorous Budget Vetting: Review proposed production budgets line-by-line to eliminate excess padding, optimize contingencies, and ensure required delivery items are fully covered to achieve financial efficiency without compromising creative scope.
  • Development & Write-Off Strategy: Track the development budget to monitor committed spend against milestone schedules; coordinate quarterly development and abandonment assessments.
  • Breakage Mitigation: Audit production partner financial statements to identify efficiencies, reallocate resources, and minimize breakage requests. Manage the approval, modeling, and legal amendment process when breakage is unavoidable.
  • Invoice Oversight: Maintain accountability for vetting, approving, and correctly coding all invoices for scripted and unscripted productions, ensuring precise cost-code compliance to drive monthly financial close processes.
  • Partner and Project Vetting: Partner with Creative Execs to evaluate new production partners for their ability to execute on a project, and help vet projects for production viability at the targeted budget.
Cross-Functional Alignment & Communications
  • XFN Communications Setup: Maintain and optimize high-priority cross-functional communication channels (Finance, Legal, Creative) to clear dailies, fast-track rush invoices, trigger cashflow milestones, and resolve complex questions under tight deadlines.
  • Liaison: Partner closely with Business & Legal Affairs, Finance, PR, and Creative Executives to align long-term production efforts.
  • Cross-Team Asset Distribution: Oversee the pipeline ensuring internal Marketing, PR, and internal distribution departments receive all necessary assets and deliverables.
Post-Production, Launch & Infrastructure
  • Launch & Post-Production Workflows: Partner closely with post-production lead to track asset pipelines, guarantee adherence to technical specs, and coordinate with technical teams.
  • Database & Workflow Tracking: Maintain the department's Airtable databases.
  • Tax Incentive Maximization: Actively evaluate, pursue, and track regional tax credits and production incentives while managing relationships with film commissioners.
  • Infrastructure Partnership Cultivation: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with external production companies, soundstages, film offices, animation houses, and VFX partners to keep building a reliable network and scale production capabilities.

Your Background:
  • Experience: 5+ years of physical production and post-production management experience at a production company, platform, or entertainment company (extensive experience across live, scripted, and unscripted formats required).
  • On-Set Travel: Willingness and flexibility to travel directly to sets as needed to support physical production.
  • Team Coordination: Demonstrated success coordinating and structuring high-performing production and post-production teams while simultaneously managing multi-project pipelines.
  • Line Producing Background: Significant hands-on, on-set experience as a Line Producer and/or Executive in Charge (EIC) of Physical Production, demonstrating absolute mastery over crew scaling, scheduling, logistics, and day-to-day cost containment.
  • Technical Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of modern cinema cameras, lens packages, and end-to-end post-production workflows (including dailies, color correction, advanced VFX, spatial audio mixing, localization, and technical QC specs), and an openness to mastering new technologies.
  • Labor, Guild & Payroll Compliance: Strong working knowledge of compliance and setup procedures involving all major entertainment unions and guilds (WGA, DGA, IATSE, Teamsters), including coordination of guild payroll and benefit contributions.
  • Software & Systems Acumen: Advanced proficiency with industry-standard budgeting software (Movie Magic or equivalent), relational databases (Airtable) and enterprise networks (Coupa, Graphite).
  • Financial Scale: Proven experience managing and safeguarding multi-million dollar production budgets across varying budget tiers.
  • Core Competencies: Capability to multitask across dozens of rapid-fire projects simultaneously and the agility to pivot priorities instantly.
