How much do remote fiber design jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 19, 2026, the average hourly pay for remote fiber design in the United States is $43.03, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $34.62 and $50.00 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some typical challenges remote fiber design professionals face when collaborating with on-site teams?

Remote fiber design professionals often work closely with on-site engineering, construction, and project management teams to ensure accurate and timely implementation of network plans. One common challenge is maintaining clear communication and alignment on project specifications, especially when site conditions change or unexpected obstacles arise. Effective use of collaborative software, regular virtual meetings, and thorough documentation are key to overcoming these hurdles. Building strong relationships with field teams and staying proactive about potential issues can greatly enhance project success.

What is remote fiber design?

Remote fiber design refers to the process of creating and planning fiber optic network layouts using specialized software and tools from a remote location, rather than on-site. Designers analyze geographic data, customer requirements, and infrastructure needs to develop efficient and cost-effective fiber optic routes. This approach allows companies to scale projects quickly, reduce travel costs, and collaborate with distributed teams. Remote fiber designers play a crucial role in expanding high-speed internet and telecommunications networks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Fiber Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Fiber Designer, you need a solid understanding of fiber optic network design, telecommunications infrastructure, and relevant engineering principles, typically backed by a degree in engineering or related field. Proficiency with design software like AutoCAD, GIS systems, and fiber management tools, as well as certifications such as CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician), are commonly required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills are crucial for remote collaboration and project delivery. These skills ensure the accurate, efficient, and reliable design of fiber networks that meet client and industry standards.

What is the difference between Remote Fiber Design vs Remote Fiber Optic Technician?

AspectRemote Fiber DesignRemote Fiber Optic Technician
CredentialsEngineering degree or certifications in fiber opticsTechnical certifications and on-site experience
Work EnvironmentDesign and planning, often office-based or remoteInstallation, troubleshooting, often field-based or remote support
Industry UsageTelecom companies, network providers, engineering firmsTelecom providers, construction companies, maintenance firms

Remote Fiber Design focuses on planning and designing fiber optic networks, requiring engineering skills and remote work. In contrast, Remote Fiber Optic Technicians handle installation and maintenance, often in the field. Both roles are essential in the fiber optic industry but differ in responsibilities, credentials, and work environment.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Fiber Splicing Manager to lead high-density fiber optic splicing projects within hyperscale data centers, telecom environments, hospitals, schools, and commercial facilities from planning to completion. This role combines traditional construction project management with deep hands-on expertise in fiber optic splicing, fusion splicing, ribbonization, and fiber infrastructure deployment. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership and problem-solving skills alongside verified field experience managing large-scale fiber splicing operations, low voltage cabling systems, and mission-critical infrastructure to drive successful project delivery.

About LINX:
Join a team that connects people through technology. We design, install, and support commercial network cabling for data centers, multimedia, security, and wireless systems.

In 2003, industry experts founded LINX to create the workplace they wanted—one built on integrity, teamwork, and innovation. These core values drive us daily, shaping a culture where employees grow and take pride in their work.

Headquartered in Denver, CO, with regional offices in Seattle, WA; Salt Lake City, UT; San Antonio, TX; Atlanta, GA; Cheyenne, WY; and Des Moines, IA, we’re growing fast! With AI, remote work, and digital transformation accelerating, now is the time to build your future with LINX.

  • Project Delivery - Support the successful delivery of projects within datacenter, healthcare, enterprise, and OSP environments by ensuring labor resources, technical requirements, quality standards, and customer commitments are achieved.
  • Fiber Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Serve as the organization's primary SME for all fiber operations, providing technical leadership, troubleshooting support, customer consultation, and operational oversight for:
  • Enterprise fiber splicing, termination, testing, certification, OTDR analysis, and documentation.
  • High-density fusion splicing and ribbonization, including fiber counts up to 3,456 strands.
  • Outside Plant (OSP) fiber construction, including microduct installations, fiber jetting/blowing operations, route documentation, and fault identification.
  • Fiber installation best practices, safety standards, quality control processes, and technician training.
