Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Mid-level Archaeology Technician (Archaeology Technician III) for immediate employment. This remote opportunity will report to our PNW Cultural Resources team. Candidates should be based in Portland, OR or Seattle, WA due to project needs. This is a part-time, on-call position meaning workdays and times will be determined on an as-needed project basis.
The Archaeological Technician primarily performs fieldwork under the supervision of a Crew Chief, Field Director and/or Principal Investigator. Field projects will primarily be in Oregon and Washington State. Candidates will need flexibility to travel overnight for field work sessions.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Performs a variety of tasks in support of project staff.
  • May gather and maintain specified records of scientific data for supervisors, including but not limited to environmental sampling, operations and maintenance and inspections at client sites.
  • Other activities may include assisting with calculations, setting up and operating equipment, inspecting equipment and installations for compliance with specifications and maintaining proper project documentation.
  • Collects and enters data and applies technical principles and theories under supervision.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School graduates plus 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education with archaeological fieldwork in the PNW region.
  • Valid Driver's License with a good driving record, as project travel will be required for this role.
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience with a wide range of field methodologies, including archaeological survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring.
  • Completion of an archaeological field school is high desired.
  • Experience with Geospatial technology including GPS and GIS.
  • Computer proficiency including familiarity with Microsoft Office.
