How does a Remote Eplan Design Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams while working offsite?

As a Remote Eplan Design Engineer, you’ll regularly collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing teams through virtual meetings, shared documentation, and cloud-based Eplan projects. Clear communication is crucial, especially when clarifying design requirements or troubleshooting issues. Many companies utilize collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams, Slack, or project management platforms to keep everyone aligned and ensure timely feedback. Adapting to remote workflows and proactively reaching out to teammates helps maintain project momentum and build strong professional relationships, even from a distance.

What is the difference between Remote Eplan Design Engineer vs Electrical CAD Designer?

AspectRemote Eplan Design EngineerElectrical CAD Designer
CredentialsRelevant certifications in Eplan and electrical designCAD software certifications, electrical design knowledge
Work EnvironmentRemote, engineering-focused, project-basedRemote or on-site, design and drafting tasks
Industry UsageElectrical engineering, automation, control systemsElectrical design, manufacturing, construction

The Remote Eplan Design Engineer and Electrical CAD Designer roles share similar skills in electrical design and CAD software. However, the Eplan Design Engineer focuses specifically on Eplan software for automation and control systems, often requiring specialized certifications. The Electrical CAD Designer may work with various CAD tools and broader electrical drafting tasks. Both roles are common in engineering industries and can be performed remotely, but their software focus and project types differ.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Eplan Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Eplan Design Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, experience with control panel and schematic design, and proficiency in EPLAN software, often supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with technical standards, PLC systems, and EPLAN P8 or related certification is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective remote communication skills are essential soft skills for success in this role. These competencies ensure accurate and efficient project delivery, seamless collaboration with distributed teams, and adherence to industry standards.

What is a Remote Eplan Design Engineer?

A Remote Eplan Design Engineer is a professional who specializes in creating electrical schematics and control system designs using Eplan software, while working from a remote location. They collaborate with engineering teams and clients to develop detailed electrical documentation for automation, manufacturing, or industrial projects. Their work includes designing circuit diagrams, panel layouts, and wiring schematics, as well as ensuring compliance with industry standards. Remote Eplan Design Engineers leverage digital communication tools to coordinate with teams and deliver projects efficiently. This role requires strong technical skills in Eplan and electrical engineering, as well as the ability to work independently.

Job description

Description

Agile Space Industries is a rapidly growing supplier of propulsion hardware and engineering services for the space industry. Headquartered in Durango, Colorado, with expanding operations in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, and Tulsa, Oklahoma, Agile has achieved more than 40% year-over-year growth for the past three years, and our momentum continues to accelerate.

At Agile, we design, build, and test in-space propulsion systems that give spacecraft the ability to maneuver with precision, reliability, and purpose. Our technologies play a critical role in missions that range from lunar landings and resource utilization to national defense, human exploration, and commercial space transport.

We are seeking bold and driven individuals who thrive in a hands-on, fast-moving environment and want to help write the next chapter of space history as part of a close-knit, innovative team.

Agile Space Industries is seeking a remote Mechanical Design Engineer III / IV to support the design, development, and expansion of propulsion test facilities and ground support infrastructure. This role is part of the Propulsion Test Stands and Ground System Engineering (PTSG) team. The Mechanical Design Engineer III / IV is responsible for delivering mechanical designs that enable safe, reliable, and scalable propulsion testing operations.

The position is focused on hands-on mechanical engineering spanning concept development, detailed design, analysis, documentation, vendor integration, installation support, and commissioning. The engineer will work closely with Test Operations, Facilities, Electrical, Controls, and Safety teams to deliver systems that are built, operated, and maintained in active test environments.

This is not a software, quality assurance, or purely analytical role. Successful candidates will be comfortable bridging design intent with field execution and operational realities.

This role can be onsite or remote with up to 25% travel, and we are currently accepting candidates residing in Colorado, Pennsylvania, Florida, North Carolina, Washington, Utah, Texas, and Oklahoma. You must live and work from one these states to work remotely for Agile Space Industries.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems supporting propulsion test facilities, including:
  • Test stands and structural assemblies
  • Pressure and vacuum systems
  • Propellant feed systems (hypergolic and cryogenic)
  • Scrubbers, purge systems, cooling systems, and facility utilities
  • Develop mechanical layouts, assemblies, and installation concepts from initial design through commissioning
  • Produce, review, and maintain fabrication drawings, layouts, and as-built documentation
  • Develop and maintain P&IDs in support of mechanical design and system integration
  • Integrate vendor-designed custom equipment into facility and test system designs
  • Review vendor drawings, calculations, and technical submittals for compliance with design intent
  • Perform and oversee first-order mechanical analyses (stress, thermal, flow, fit-up, pressure)
  • Support installation planning, field fit-up, and commissioning activities
  • Provide on-site engineering support during system checkout, troubleshooting, and operational handover
  • Maintain configuration control, revision discipline, and documentation consistency
  • Coordinate closely with Electrical, Controls, Safety, and Test Operations teams
  • Participate in design reviews, readiness reviews, hazard reviews, and operational walkthroughs
  • Mentor junior engineers and support technical knowledge development within the PTSG

Requirements

Leveling Expectations:

Mechanical Design Engineer III

  • Typically, 5-8 years of relevant experience
  • Independently executes mechanical designs with limited supervision
  • Owns defined subsystems or portions of larger facility projects
  • Leads vendor coordination and drawing reviews for assigned systems
  • Supports installation and commissioning activities with minimal guidance

Mechanical Design Engineer IV

  • Typically, 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Serve as technical lead for major facility systems or test stand designs
  • Drive system architecture decisions and design

The expected salary range :

Level III: $108,000-$135,000 annually

Level IV: $124,000-$155,000 annually

Final compensation will be based on factors such as experience, skills, and internal equity, and is typically made within the midrange, rather than the upper end.

Work Schedule: Full Time
Employment Type: Exempt
Location: Remote with up to 25% travel. This role can be onsite or remote, and we are currently accepting candidates residing in Colorado, Pennsylvania, Florida, North Carolina, Washington, Utah, Texas, and Oklahoma.
