Purpose

Halliwell Engineering Associates is seeking an experienced Environmental Consultant or Industrial Hygienist to help lead and expand our environmental consulting practice in one or more of the following markets:

  • Chicago, IL
  • St. Louis, MO
  • Denver, CO
  • Atlanta, GA
  • Washington, DC

This role offers the opportunity to lead complex environmental and industrial hygiene investigations, support high-profile claims and litigation matters, and help establish Halliwell’s presence in a growing market.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with the ability to build client relationships, manage projects, and contribute to the long-term growth of the practice.

 

Position Overview

As an Environmental Consultant / Industrial Hygienist -Market Lead, you will manage and perform environmental and industrial hygiene investigations involving indoor environmental quality, contamination, hazardous building materials, occupational exposures, and environmental health concerns.

You will work closely with forensic engineers, architects, attorneys, insurers, and clients to evaluate complex issues, develop defensible conclusions, and provide trusted technical guidance.

In addition to technical consulting responsibilities, you will help strengthen Halliwell’s regional presence through client development, relationship management, and practice growth initiatives.

Key Accountabilities
  • Lead environmental and industrial hygiene investigations involving contamination events, exposure concerns, and environmental health issues.
  • Conduct and oversee environmental sampling, air monitoring, exposure assessments, and field investigations.
  • Evaluate issues involving mold, asbestos, lead-based paint, indoor air quality, moisture intrusion, and other environmental hazards.
  • Assess environmental and occupational health risks in residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial settings.
  • Develop investigation strategies, sampling plans, scopes of work, and technical approaches for client engagements.
  • Support remediation and abatement projects through technical oversight, verification, and consulting services.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and scientifically defensible reports, findings, and recommendations.
  • Provide technical analysis and support for litigation, claims consulting, and expert witness assignments.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, attorneys, insurers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Prepare proposals, budgets, and technical scopes for new and existing client opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while contributing to regional business growth.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior consultants as the practice expands.

 

Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Environmental Health, Public Health, Biology, Toxicology, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in environmental consulting, industrial hygiene, contamination investigations, exposure assessments, and environmental risk evaluation.
  • Experience conducting investigations involving mold, asbestos, lead, indoor air quality, hazardous materials, or related environmental concerns.
  • Strong technical report writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific and technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience managing projects, coordinating stakeholders, and delivering high-quality client service.
  • State-specific mold, lead, and/or asbestos licenses, or the ability to obtain applicable licenses within six (6) months of employment.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25-50%, depending on project and market needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
  • Master's degree or higher in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Toxicology, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting litigation, insurance claims, forensic investigations, or expert witness engagements.
  • Experience with remediation consulting, abatement oversight, and post-remediation verification.
  • Established professional relationships within the local environmental consulting, insurance, legal, or commercial property markets.
  • Experience contributing to business development, client growth, or practice leadership initiatives.
