Job description

Environmental Consultant / NPDES Inspector

Location: Dallas, GA (Field-Based — Greater Atlanta Region)

Employment Type: Full-Time

About HB NEXT

Headquartered in Lawrenceville, Georgia, HB NEXT has been a trusted partner to the construction industry since 1999. We deliver innovative SWPPP, NPDES, and safety inspection solutions across the U.S., helping residential and commercial construction clients navigate and comply with complex EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations. Using proprietary technology and a service-oriented approach, HB NEXT supports clients through in-depth site inspections, custom compliance training, and consulting tailored to their unique needs.

Position Overview

HB NEXT is seeking a full-time Environmental Consultant / NPDES Inspector based in the Dallas, GA area to support our growing operations across the region. This role is ideal for a self-motivated, detail-oriented professional who enjoys working outdoors, values flexibility, and is passionate about environmental compliance in the construction industry.

This position combines field inspections, client consulting, and compliance documentation — giving you broad exposure to environmental regulations and real-world construction environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct stormwater and NPDES inspections on active residential and commercial construction sites
  • Evaluate erosion and sediment controls and Best Management Practices (BMPs) for compliance with permit conditions and applicable regulations
  • Identify deficiencies, document findings accurately, and provide clear, actionable recommendations to site personnel
  • Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and field teams to support ongoing compliance
  • Prepare timely, professional inspection reports using HB NEXT's proprietary software
  • Deliver on-site compliance guidance and support client education on NPDES requirements
  • Manage a multi-site inspection schedule across the assigned region with minimal oversight
  • Travel to job sites throughout the Greater Atlanta region (local day travel; occasional extended travel may be required)

Qualifications

  • National or Georgia Erosion and Sediment Control Certification (CPESC, CESSWI, CPSWQ, or state equivalent) — or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire (training provided by HB NEXT)
  • Prior experience in construction, field inspection, environmental consulting, or related field is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills — ability to clearly explain compliance issues to contractors and project teams
  • Highly organized and self-directed — comfortable managing your own schedule and priorities in the field
  • Reliable personal transportation and a clean MVR
  • Proficiency with mobile technology
  • Ability to adapt to changing site and weather conditions

Key Competencies for Success

  • Attention to Detail: Accurate observation and documentation of site conditions and control measures
  • Client Communication: Ability to build trust with site personnel and deliver compliance feedback in a constructive, professional manner
  • Independent Execution: Comfortable managing a dynamic field schedule with little day-to-day supervision
  • Adaptability: Able to work effectively in varying weather, terrain, and site conditions
  • Integrity: Consistent, objective reporting that reflects actual site conditions

What We Offer

  • Vehicle reimbursement (fixed rate + mileage)
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid vacation and holidays
  • On-the-job training including OSHA and CPR/First Aid certifications
  • Ongoing professional development and certification support
  • Clear path for career growth and advancement within a fast-growing company

Work Environment

This is a field-based role. Most work is performed outdoors on active construction sites in varying weather conditions. Candidates must be comfortable navigating uneven terrain and working in a physically active environment year-round.
