Remote Engineering Change Order information

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Engineering Change Order Specialists, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Engineering Change Order Specialists often encounter challenges such as coordinating across multiple time zones, ensuring accurate documentation, and maintaining clear communication with engineers, manufacturing teams, and suppliers. To address these challenges, it’s important to utilize collaborative tools for real-time updates, establish standardized processes for change requests, and schedule regular virtual meetings to clarify requirements and resolve issues promptly. Building strong relationships with cross-functional team members also helps streamline the change order process and minimize delays.

What is the difference between Remote Engineering Change Order vs Remote Mechanical Engineer?

AspectRemote Engineering Change OrderRemote Mechanical Engineer
Primary RoleManaging and implementing engineering change orders to modify product designs or processesDesigning, analyzing, and developing mechanical systems and components
Required CredentialsEngineering background, knowledge of change management processesMechanical engineering degree, CAD proficiency
Work EnvironmentCollaborative with engineering teams, often in manufacturing or product developmentDesign studios, manufacturing settings, or remote CAD work
Industry UsageManufacturing, aerospace, automotive, product developmentMechanical design, product development, HVAC, robotics

While both roles require engineering knowledge, a Remote Engineering Change Order focuses on managing modifications to existing designs, whereas a Remote Mechanical Engineer is involved in creating and analyzing new mechanical systems. Understanding these differences helps in selecting the right job or service for your needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Engineering Change Order Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Engineering Change Order Specialist, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a background in engineering or manufacturing processes, often supported by a relevant degree or experience. Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software, CAD tools, and documentation systems is typically required, along with knowledge of ISO or industry-specific standards. Excellent written communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities are vital soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure efficient, accurate processing of engineering changes, which minimizes errors and keeps projects on track in a remote environment.

What are Remote Engineering Change Orders?

Remote Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) are formal requests to modify product designs, manufacturing processes, or technical documentation that are managed and executed by engineers working remotely. These changes may involve updates to specifications, materials, or production methods and require careful documentation, approval, and communication across distributed teams. Remote ECO processes ensure that all stakeholders are informed and that changes are implemented efficiently without physical presence at the production site.

TT Electronics’ Minneapolis, Minnesota facility, is an industry-leading designer and manufacturer of custom and standard magnetic components and assemblies. The Minneapolis-based site has over 50 years of design experience and specializes in the creation of innovative and sophisticated solutions for solving customer magnetic technology needs. We use cutting-edge materials and state-of-the-art design technology to deliver products across a broad range of industries including renewable energy, medical device, aerospace/aviation/automotive, electronics, food processing, instrumentation, industrial control, telecommunications and HVAC applications.

The Lead Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for designing high reliability and precision electromagnetic components and value-added assemblies for medical devices and aerospace and defense applications.

This position will serve as the technical lead in electromagnetic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and within our engineering team as well as in cross-functional projects.

This position does have flexible working options.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Interpreting customer requirements and providing an optimum design solution by means of Excel / VBA programming, FEA and Solidworks Modeling.
  • Generating 2D/3D models and use FEA to solve complex electromagnetic and multiphysics problems.
  • Improving design efficiency by developing custom Excel with VBA programming.
  • Utilizing scripting capability to improve FEA efficiency.
  • Establishing FEA best practice guidelines, internal training manuals, and providing FEA training to colleagues.
  • Designing electromagnetic assemblies that not only meet the functional requirements but are also cost effective, designed for manufacturability, and meet safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Leading design input, output, verification and validation reviews cross-functionally.
  • Designing, documenting and coordinating the product design, prototype process, verification and validation of assigned products.
  • Interfacing with sales prototype technicians, engineers, documentation, product personnel, customer service, manufacturing, purchasing, quality assurance, and scheduling to ensure that the project is completed properly, on time and within budget.
  • Initiating, reviewing, and approving engineering change orders (ECOs) to ensure both customer requirements and the company’s capabilities and processes are met.
