Remote Engineering Change Management involves overseeing technical modifications in engineering projects, ensuring compliance and quality. Remote Product Lifecycle Coordinators manage the entire product lifecycle, from development to end-of-life, focusing on cross-functional coordination. While both roles require project management skills, Engineering Change Management is more technical, whereas Product Lifecycle Coordination emphasizes product strategy and cross-team collaboration.

How does a remote Engineering Change Management professional typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement changes effectively?

Remote Engineering Change Management professionals frequently coordinate with design, manufacturing, quality assurance, and procurement teams through digital collaboration tools. Regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and efficient workflow management are essential for aligning stakeholders and ensuring timely approvals. Challenges can include bridging communication gaps and maintaining transparency, but leveraging project management platforms and setting clear expectations helps facilitate smooth change implementation. Building strong virtual relationships and proactively addressing potential roadblocks are key to success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Engineering Change Management professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Engineering Change Management professional, you need a solid understanding of engineering principles, change control processes, and documentation standards, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree or certification. Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software such as Siemens Teamcenter, Agile PLM, or Windchill, along with experience in digital collaboration tools, is essential. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and organizational skills help facilitate seamless coordination and implementation of changes across remote teams. These skills ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, and efficient management of engineering updates in distributed environments.

What is remote engineering change management?

Remote engineering change management is the process of overseeing, coordinating, and implementing changes to engineering projects, products, or systems while working remotely. This involves reviewing change requests, assessing their impact, ensuring proper documentation, and facilitating communication between teams located in different places. The goal is to maintain project quality, compliance, and efficiency, even when team members are not physically present in the same location. Remote tools and collaboration platforms are often used to streamline the entire change management workflow.

The Manager of Engineering Data Management and Process Control is a global leader responsible for engineering data governance, process standardization, digital engineering systems, and AI-enabled transformation across the Crop Care platform. This role ensures the integrity of engineering data within PLM, ERP, CAD, and product configuration systems while driving global process harmonization, virtual validation capabilities, and adoption of emerging digital technologies. Working closely with Engineering, IT, Manufacturing, and Product Platforms, this position plays a key role in advancing the future engineering operating model for Crop Care.

Your Impact

  • Engineering Data Governance & Management. Define and maintain global standards for Crop Care engineering data structures, taxonomies, product configurations, and lifecycle management. Ensure data integrity, consistency, and traceability across PLM, ERP, CAD, and engineering business systems. Act as the global owner of engineering master data policies and governance frameworks. Partner with IT to drive system enhancements, integrations, and digital engineering initiatives.

  • Engineering Process Excellence. Develop, implement, and sustain standardized engineering processes and workflows across Crop Care. Establish process control mechanisms, KPIs, and compliance tracking tools. Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies. Ensure alignment of engineering processes with global product development, manufacturing, and quality standards.

  • AI & Digital Transformation Leadership. Drive adoption of AI-enabled engineering processes and workflows. Identify opportunities to leverage AI, automation, and advanced analytics to improve engineering productivity, data quality, and decision-making. Collaborate with Engineering and IT teams to redesign processes and systems that maximize the value of emerging digital technologies.

  • Digital Engineering Systems & Support. Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for engineering systems, including PLM, PDM, CAD data management, ERP interfaces, and product configurators. Provide engineering-focused systems support, drive issue resolution, and identify opportunities to improve reliability, usability, and business value across the engineering tool landscape.

  • Virtual Validation & Product Configuration Integrity. Support virtual build activities by ensuring engineering models, configurations, and product structures are accurate, complete, and suitable for digital validation. Enable identification of design interferences, configuration issues, and data discrepancies prior to physical builds.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Governance. Collaborate with global Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and IT teams to ensure end-to-end alignment of systems, processes, and data. Support regional teams in implementing global standards while balancing business and regulatory requirements.

  • Compliance, Risk Management & Continuous Improvement. Ensure adherence to internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. Monitor and audit data quality, process effectiveness, and system compliance. Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies related to engineering data, digital systems, and process execution.

Your Experience and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience managing and improving engineering data, product structures, configurations, and lifecycle processes within PLM, ERP, CAD/PDM, and related engineering systems.

  • Proven success leading process standardization, governance, and continuous improvement initiatives across multiple teams, sites, or regions.

  • Experience supporting or administering engineering systems and driving collaboration between Engineering, IT, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Understanding of product development processes, engineering change management, configuration management, and engineering data governance principles.

  • Experience leading digital transformation initiatives, including automation, advanced analytics, AI-enabled workflows, or other emerging technologies.

  • Working knowledge of virtual validation, digital mockups, virtual builds, or CAD-based product development processes is highly desirable.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority.
