What is the difference between Remote Energy Efficiency Program and Remote Energy Auditor?

AspectRemote Energy Efficiency ProgramRemote Energy Auditor
CredentialsCertifications in energy management, sustainability, or related fieldsCertifications like BPI, RESNET, or similar energy auditing credentials
Work EnvironmentPrimarily remote, coordinating with clients and teams onlineRemote or on-site assessments, with some remote analysis
Industry UsageDeveloping and managing energy efficiency programs for clientsInspecting and evaluating energy systems to identify savings opportunities

The Remote Energy Efficiency Program focuses on designing and managing energy-saving initiatives remotely, while the Remote Energy Auditor conducts assessments to identify energy inefficiencies. Both roles require relevant certifications and often operate in remote settings, but their core responsibilities differ in scope and focus.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote energy efficiency program roles, and how can they overcome them?

One common challenge in remote energy efficiency program roles is maintaining clear communication with both internal teams and external stakeholders, as much of the collaboration happens virtually. Additionally, managing projects across different locations and time zones can require strong organizational skills and proactive scheduling. To overcome these challenges, professionals often leverage project management software, set regular check-ins, and establish clear documentation practices. Building strong relationships with local partners and staying updated on regional energy regulations can also help ensure program success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote energy efficiency program manager?

To thrive as a Remote Energy Efficiency Program Manager, you need expertise in energy management, program administration, and a relevant degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field. Familiarity with energy modeling software, data analysis tools, and industry certifications such as CEM (Certified Energy Manager) are typically required. Strong communication, project management, and problem-solving skills help you lead teams and engage stakeholders effectively. These capabilities are essential for designing impactful programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and achieving measurable energy savings remotely.

What is a remote energy efficiency program?

Remote energy efficiency programs are initiatives designed to help individuals, businesses, or organizations improve their energy use without requiring in-person visits. Instead, these programs use digital tools, phone consultations, and online resources to assess energy consumption, provide recommendations, and support the implementation of energy-saving measures. Common services include virtual energy audits, remote monitoring, and guidance on upgrading appliances or building systems to be more efficient. These programs are especially useful for reaching participants in remote areas or during times when in-person interactions are limited.

This individual will provide guidance and influence X-energy's Program leadership in the execution of all phases of Configuration and Data Management (CDM) principles (Planning, Identification, Change Control, Status Accounting, Verification/Audits, and Data Management). Responsibilities include reviewing, updating, and maintaining CDM process documentation, auditing and evaluating compliance with these processes, sharing best practices, and implementing Corrective Actions resulting from audit findings to ensure continuous improvement.
Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities:
  • Review and manage proposed changes to hardware and software to ensure all updates are properly evaluated, approved, documented, and incorporated into the controlled configuration baseline.
  • Maintain configuration status accounting records, including the master list of parts, versions, and revisions, to ensure that released and built configurations remain aligned with approved engineering documentation.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve the configuration source of truth across multiple projects by reviewing historical configuration data, resolving inconsistencies, and standardizing controlled records.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between engineering, manufacturing, and quality functions to ensure teams are working from the correct, current, and approved design information.
  • Manage part traceability, including serial number and lot number tracking, to support complete component identification and lifecycle traceability across products and projects.
  • Evaluate the impact of proposed changes on downstream documentation, manufacturing readiness, quality records, and configuration integrity.
  • Support configuration audits, status reviews, and internal assessments by preparing accurate records, identifying gaps, and driving resolution of discrepancies.
  • Develop, implement, and refine digital tools, databases, and workflow processes that improve the efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility of configuration data.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen configuration management practices, reduce manual effort, and improve visibility into design, build, and release status.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to resolve configuration issues, support change control decisions, and maintain disciplined adherence to configuration management procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance on configuration requirements, records management, and traceability expectations to project teams and functional partners.
  • Coordinate with various departments including engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance to plan and manage product baselines and documentation.
  • Conduct configuration audits to verify conformance of requirements and facilitate the resolution of discrepancies.
  • Provide expert guidance and support on configuration management best practices to project teams.
  • Review and analyze released engineering change data, coordinating updates between engineering, quality, manufacturing, and data control teams
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of engineering, product configuration, and project execution needs.

Job Profile Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Typically requires 15+ years of progressive experience in configuration management, engineering change control, document control, product data management, or a related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience managing configuration records, engineering changes, and traceability data in a complex technical environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering and understanding of the product life cycle.
  • Strong understanding of configuration management principles, including baselines, change control, status accounting, and traceability.
  • Experience reviewing technical data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency across engineering, manufacturing, and quality functions.
  • Ability to interpret and reconcile historical configuration information across multiple projects or product lines.
  • Experience working in highly regulated or controlled environments, preferably within nuclear, aerospace, defense, energy, or advanced manufacturing industries.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and data integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience using digital tools, databases, or enterprise systems to manage configuration data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to diverse stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding and experience with configuration management standards and practices (e.g., ISO, ANSI, CMII).
  • Proven experience establishing and maintaining product baselines while ensuring data accuracy across systems and tools throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Experience with PLM (Teamcenter strongly preferred), ERP (Costpoint, SAP), MES and other business systems.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of configuration management principles using configuration management policies, procedures, and tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with various engineering disciplines to ensure data integrity and compliance with configuration management policies.
  • Ability to identify potential complex problems associated with technical engineering data, regarding configuration management issues, and take corrective action as needed.
  • Demonstrated expertise in establishing and maintaining document traceability systems that link requirements, design outputs, test records, manufacturing instructions, and quality documentation across the product lifecycle.
  • Track record of implementing digital configuration tools, databases, or workflow automation to replace manual processes, improve data integrity, and increase visibility into configuration status.
  • Experience in regulated or safety-critical industries (nuclear, aerospace, defense, medical devices, or advanced manufacturing) where configuration control, auditability, and traceability are mission-critical compliance requirements.
