What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Endpoint Security Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Endpoint Security Specialist, you need a strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, endpoint protection strategies, and relevant IT infrastructure, often supported by a degree in computer science or cybersecurity and certifications like CompTIA Security+ or CISSP. Familiarity with endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools, antivirus software, SIEM systems, and remote management platforms is typically required. Both roles require similar certifications and often work in overlapping environments, but their scope and focus differ significantly.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Remote Endpoint Security roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Remote Endpoint Security often encounter challenges such as managing and securing a diverse range of devices across various locations, ensuring compliance with security policies, and quickly responding to incidents remotely. To address these, it's essential to implement centralized management tools, maintain up-to-date endpoint protection solutions, and establish clear communication protocols with remote users. Regular training and collaboration with IT and operations teams help ensure best practices are followed and potential threats are quickly mitigated.

What is remote endpoint security?

Remote endpoint security refers to the strategies, tools, and practices used to protect devices such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets that connect to a company’s network from outside the traditional office environment. With the rise of remote work, securing these endpoints is crucial to prevent cyber threats like malware, ransomware, and unauthorized access. Remote endpoint security solutions typically include antivirus software, firewalls, encryption, and endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools. They ensure that sensitive company data remains protected, regardless of where employees are working.

We’re looking for a Network Administrator II to join our IT team, specializing in systems at the intersection of Information Technology and Radio Engineering (non-RF/Broadcast Engineering) across the company. In this remote position, you’ll play a critical role in providing high-level technical support. The ideal candidate is a strong troubleshooter with excellent customer service skills, a passion for technology, and the ability to support everything from broadcast automation systems to network and systems infrastructure. • Provide operational and technical support for core radio automation systems, including Wide Orbit, RCS Zetta, and Nexgen.
  • Configure, install, and maintain network and firewall equipment such as routers, firewalls, and managed switches.
  • Diagnose hardware and software failures, communicate remediation plans to users, and provide status updates.
  • Support proprietary and 3rd-party applications used across the organization.
  • Develop, maintain, and contribute knowledge to internal documentation, diagrams, IT, and Engineering SOPs and training manuals.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance, providing excellent customer service at all times, and building effective working relationships with internal customers and team members.
  • Utilize strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and meet service-level agreements (SLAs).
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and adaptability to learn new technologies, work effectively both independently and in a team, and remain flexible in a fast-paced environment.
  • Support continuous improvement in the process and quality of the operations.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Director of IT or the Director of Engineering.

Qualifications:

Required Technical Skills amp; Experience:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in Systems Administration on the Windows platform, including user/security management, file system administration, and patch management. (Familiarity with Linux is a plus).
  • 5+ years managing and remediating endpoint protection and security systems.
  • 3+ years of experience configuring and maintaining business-class networking equipment, including:
  • Firewalls (NAT/PAT, routing, access rules, VPNs).
  • Managed switches and VLANs.
  • Strong working knowledge of radio broadcast automation systems such as Wide Orbit, RCS Zetta, and Nexgen.

Additional Experience Considered A Plus:

  • Experience with Google Workspace management.
  • Experience maintaining Help Desk/RMM platforms (e.g., Zendesk, N-Central MSP).
  • Experience with broadcast media-specific hardware and software.
  • Proficiency in technical diagramming tools (e.g., Microsoft Visio).

General Requirements:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a focus on great customer service and interfacing with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work remotely, under pressure, and meet strict deadlines. A company computer will be provided.
  • Ability to be on-call after hours on a rotation schedule.
  • Willingness to travel is a plus.

Preferred:

  • Applicants in the Eastern Time Zone who are willing to work early hours.
