Job description

The University of Iowa department of Design & Construction is seeking a Design Project Manager Team Lead. This position will be responsible for direct administrative supervision and support of design project managers. Collaborates with the Associate Director for the functional area, other senior leadership team members, and other functional area Team Leads.

Duties to Include:

  • Provide direct supervision, leadership and coaching to design project managers (DPMs).

  • Assist unit AD to develop effective procedures for DPMs to ensure the successful management of projects during the design phase of project delivery. 

  • Oversight of staff management of project designs to ensure the project scope, time, resources, quality, risks, and cost requirements are met throughout the life of the project.  

  • Manage conflicts between delivering institutional objectives and project team member isolated interests.

  • Effectively communicate (both verbally and written) with project team members and administration.

Location: University Services Building

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Professional experience (typically 5-7 years) in project management.

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in computer software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint.

  • Familiarity with construction site safety guidelines.

  • Understanding of the total-cost-ownership approach to project decision making and other effective practices supporting facilities stewardship.

  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.

  • Experience in a customer focused, team-oriented environment.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Supervisory and performance management experience.

  • Professional experience (typically 5-7) in project management of projects during programming, schematic design, design development and/or construction document phases on a university campus.

  • Extensive experience managing complex project budgets.

  • Expert/Leader experience in project management principles.

  • Experience with commissioning processes and state building inspection procedures.

  • Knowledge of the operating principles, major issues, governmental regulations, and code of ethics for the healthcare industry; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to healthcare related situations.
