What is remote editing?

Remote editing is the process of reviewing, proofreading, and revising written content from a location outside of a traditional office, usually performed online. Remote editors work with various types of documents—such as articles, books, academic papers, and marketing materials—ensuring clarity, accuracy, and consistency. This role often involves collaborating with writers and clients via email, cloud-based platforms, or specialized editing software. Remote editors must have strong language skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage their time independently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Editor, you need excellent language proficiency, strong attention to detail, and a background in English, journalism, or a related field. Familiarity with editing tools such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and style guides like APA or Chicago Manual of Style is typically required. Outstanding time management, self-motivation, and clear communication are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration and meeting deadlines. These skills ensure high-quality, consistent editing work and effective teamwork, even in a virtual environment.

What are some common challenges remote editors face, and how can they overcome them?

Remote editors often encounter challenges such as maintaining clear communication with writers and other team members, managing time across different time zones, and ensuring consistent editorial standards without in-person oversight. To overcome these, it's important to establish regular check-ins, use collaborative editing tools, and set clear expectations for turnaround times and feedback. Staying organized and proactive in communication can help ensure projects stay on track and editorial quality remains high.

Job description

About From Day One:

The business landscape is changing fast. From Day One is a media outlet and conference series that helps companies navigate all that change in ways that put people first.

Since our beginning in 2018, we've reached over 150,000 attendees, hosted over a thousand speakers, and produced conferences in more than 20 major U.S. cities-and counting. We take a unique, cross-disciplinary approach, convening leaders in CSR, HR, marketing, and communications, as well as civic leaders, authors, and journalists, to share business strategies that benefit workers, customers, and communities.

We also publish reporting and opinion pieces by a network of notable journalists, led by the company's editor in chief, veteran journalist Stephen Koepp.

At From Day One, we hire people who have a high degree of self-motivation and the potential to grow into active leaders. We call team members like these "drivers". If you are a passenger, From Day One will not be a good fit for you.

As you apply, think about whether these attributes describe you:

  • You motivate and energize colleagues rather than waiting for inspiration.
  • You're relentlessly resourceful and take ownership rather than seeking excuses.
  • You look to consistently deliver great outcomes, and work to improve processes as you engage with them.
  • You are excited about your work and bring urgency to your mission.
  • You approach challenges with enthusiasm and optimism.

Our work is driven by our mission to improve the relationship between business and society, and our efforts are intended to contribute to a brighter future. By maintaining this optimistic outlook, we not only motivate ourselves but also uplift those around us. We believe that believing that the future will be better is the first step towards making it better -- for others, and for ourselves personally.

Please note that diversity and inclusion are absolutely core to our mission, and we are committed to those values in our hiring process.

About This Role:

As our Junior Account Executive, you'd work with clients to close deals, meet their goals, and help them maximize ROI. You'd also collaborate with our Client Success team to nurture relationships with sponsoring companies and help grow our installed base. In working to meet or exceed your sales quota, you'd receive mentorship from our CRO and VP of Sales, and you'd be an early member of our recently launched Canada-based team.

About You:

  • A 4-year college/university degree.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in sales or sales adjacent positions such as SDR, BDR, or demand generation.
  • Experience with CRMs such as Salesforce, outreach tools such as Salesloft, business software such as Excel, and the core elements of B2B outreach and research.
  • Start-up experience is not mandatory, but a major asset.

Benefits

    • This is a full-time salaried position. Starting salary is $70,000 CAD per year with opportunities for regular advancement and raises.
    • From Day One offers substantial uncapped commissions and incentives for sales positions, and a top-tier candidate who exceeds targets has the potential for year-one earnings of $100,000+
    • This position is remote, but please be available to meet with stakeholders based in or near the greater Toronto area if requested.
