What is full time editing?

Full time editing refers to a professional role where an individual is primarily responsible for reviewing, revising, and improving written content on a full-time basis, typically 35-40 hours per week. Editors ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency in documents such as articles, books, reports, or digital content. This job may involve correcting grammar and punctuation, restructuring sentences, fact-checking, and collaborating with writers or other team members to meet publishing standards and deadlines. Full time editors can work in various industries, including publishing, media, marketing, and corporate communications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full-time editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full-Time Editor, you typically need strong language proficiency, attention to detail, and experience with editing or writing, often supported by a degree in English, journalism, or a related field. Familiarity with editing software such as Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word, and content management systems, as well as knowledge of style guides like AP or Chicago, is essential. Excellent communication, time management, and collaboration skills help editors work effectively with writers and meet deadlines. These skills ensure content accuracy, consistency, and high-quality output, which are vital for maintaining editorial standards and audience trust.

Full-time editors often juggle tight deadlines, multiple projects, and the need to maintain high editorial standards. Managing these challenges requires strong organizational skills, clear communication with writers and other team members, and the ability to quickly adapt to shifting priorities. Many editors find it helpful to use project management tools, maintain detailed style guides, and schedule regular check-ins with their teams to ensure consistency and efficiency. The Kind of People We're Looking For

Village Media is beyond a traditional media company. We're a community impact organization. Our purpose is to help communities become stronger by keeping people informed, connected, and engaged.

That means we look for people who genuinely care about the places they serve. We need teammates who are curious, collaborative, adaptable, and energized by solving problems. You'll fit right in if you take initiative, embrace change, and are always willing to step outside your job description to help the team or the community succeed.

We're building something ambitious in the digital media space, so we value:

Humility over ego

Optimism over cynicism

Ownership over "that's not my job"

We move quickly, support one another, and believe meaningful work comes from people who care deeply about both their colleagues and their neighbours. If you're excited by the opportunity to make a real difference where people live, you'll thrive here.

At Village Media, aptitude matters. Attitude matters more.

To start, you have a bachelor's degree or diploma in Journalism, or a related field. You have experience in a newsroom setting. You will have the ability to build strong relationships with those inside our Village and within the communities we serve. Familiarity with the Niagara Region is a must!

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead an editorial team in St. Catharines

  • Guide and develop a skilled team of writers and editors
