The work you do with our team will directly improve health outcomes by connecting people with the care, pharmacy benefits, data and resources they need to feel their best. Here, you will find a culture guided by inclusion, talented peers, comprehensive benefits and career development opportunities. Come make an impact on the communities we serve as you help us advance health optimization on a global scale. Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together.
The Senior Underwriting Consultant will support underwriting initiatives to ensure employer and payer cases are appropriately assessed from a risk perspective and priced in alignment with enterprise margin, growth, and risk tolerance objectives. This role serves as a senior individual contributor within the underwriting organization, providing expertise on some of the largest and most complex clients in the book of business.
This individual will partner closely with Sales, Account Management, Finance, and operational stakeholders to support profitable growth, retention, and underwriting excellence across the health plan portfolio. The role will contribute to underwriting strategy, risk assessment, pricing methodologies, and process improvement initiatives while serving as a trusted advisor to internal business partners.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.
For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and underwrite complex employer and payer opportunities, ensuring pricing recommendations appropriately reflect risk, market dynamics, and business objectives
  • Develop and maintain financial models, forecasts, and risk analyses to support new business and retention efforts
  • Provide underwriting consultation and subject matter expertise to Sales, Account Management, Finance, and leadership teams
  • Review complex proposals, renewals, and financial offers and provide recommendations that support profitability and growth objectives
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities through detailed analysis of utilization, claims experience, and financial performance
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of underwriting policies, methodologies, and best practices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve underwriting issues and meet aggressive timelines
  • Present underwriting recommendations and financial analyses to internal stakeholders and leadership
  • Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced underwriters as needed, without direct supervisory responsibility
  • Participate in strategic initiatives, process improvements, and special projects that enhance underwriting effectiveness

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of financial analysis, pricing, and/or underwriting experience, with at least 3+ years within a healthcare environment
  • 3+ years of experience working for or with a Pharmacy Benefits Manager (PBM) or in a consulting role supporting PBM clients
  • Experience building complex financial models and conducting economic analyses
  • Experience underwriting financial offers for existing and prospective clients using a variety of forecasting methodologies
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations and communicating effectively through both verbal and written communication
  • Experience working in a cross-functional environment with the ability to quickly learn and understand new business areas
  • Progressive professional experience, preferably in underwriting, finance, healthcare consulting, or a related field
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modeling, forecasting, and ad hoc analysis

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Pricing and underwriting experience within a PBM environment
  • Experience supporting specialty pharmacy products and services
  • Experience presenting recommendations to senior leaders and business stakeholders
  • Experience mentoring junior analysts or underwriters
  • Knowledge of healthcare, pharmacy benefit, and risk management concepts
