Description
Are you an accountant who has a love for accounting and a passion for helping those in your community?
The DuPage County Health Department is seeking an Accountant who brings strong technical expertise along with a commitment to supporting programs that make a meaningful impact in DuPage County. This role will focus on grants and will touch all facets of accounting - including budgeting, reconciliation, audit, and contract review.
In this position, you will support the Finance/Accounting Team, Department Leadership, and Program Managers while contributing to work that directly benefits the residents we serve
This position works out of our Wheaton location, and is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) benefited position. The regular schedule for this position includes working from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities
• Maintains fiscal records using professional accounting principles and methods
• Maintains and reconciles funds allocated and disbursed
• Performs grant accounting functions, including billing, reconciliation, reporting, and grant closeouts
• Reconciles cash balances for grants
• Maintains fiscal records and documentation for auditors
• Verifies accuracy of system-generated reports
• Maintains key general ledger metrics for grant activity
• Establishes and maintains cost accounting systems
• Conducts high-level analytical work
• Provides fiscal support to management at all levels
• Assists in preparation of the annual budget
• Assists with ad hoc accounting reports
• Supports the month-end close process
• Aids in preparation of various federal and state funding reports
• Prepares reconciliations and schedules for the annual audit
• Participates in emergency response activities as assigned
Requirements
Completion of a bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance; or an Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered for preferred qualifications. Preferred experience in government accounting
