What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Downstream Process Development specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive in Remote Downstream Process Development, you need a solid background in bioprocess engineering, protein purification, and analytical techniques, often supported by a degree in biochemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with chromatography systems (e.g., AKTA), filtration technologies, and data analysis software, along with relevant GMP or bioprocess certifications, is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, clear communication, and self-motivation are essential soft skills, especially when collaborating remotely across teams. These skills ensure the effective design and optimization of purification processes, driving successful biologics production and maintaining quality standards in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced in a remote downstream process development role, and how can they be managed?

One of the main challenges in a remote downstream process development role is maintaining effective communication and collaboration with laboratory teams, especially when hands-on process optimization and troubleshooting are required. To manage this, professionals often rely on regular virtual meetings, detailed documentation, and digital data-sharing platforms to stay aligned with on-site teams. Additionally, remote workers need to be proactive in seeking feedback and clarifications to ensure experimental objectives are met. Building strong relationships with colleagues and utilizing collaborative tools can greatly enhance workflow and project outcomes.

What is a Remote Downstream Process Development role?

A Remote Downstream Process Development role involves designing, optimizing, and scaling processes that purify and refine products, typically in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries, while working from a remote location. This job focuses on the steps that occur after the initial production of a biological product, such as separation, purification, and formulation. Professionals in this field use scientific and engineering principles to ensure the final product meets quality and regulatory standards. Remote work in this area relies on digital tools for data analysis, collaboration, and project management. Effective communication and strong technical expertise are key to success in this position.

Job description

NEOLYTIX GROWTH SERVICESย

Fractional Engagement Briefย

Growth Program Architect โ€” Provider Growth & Referral Developmentย

Engagement Typeย

Fractional / Hourly Consultingย

Locationย

Remote (US-based). Periodic collaboration sessions withย Neolytixย leadership (Chicago).ย

Reports Toย

CEO / Head of NGSย

Compensationย

Hourly rate. Scope and cadenceย determinedย by mutual agreement.ย

ย

Why This Role Existsย

Neolytixย Growth Services (NGS) isย Neolytixโ€™sย integrated growth division โ€” combining digital patient acquisition, referral network development, community partnership campaigns, and growth analytics into a managed service for multi-location healthcare organizations.ย

Several of these growth levers โ€” particularly physician referral development, corporate wellness partnerships, and community health campaigns โ€” require structured program design before they can be executed at scale.ย The playbooks, workflows, scripts, partnership frameworks, and operating models for these programs do not exist today. Building them from scratch through trial and error would cost 12โ€“18 monthsย and significant client goodwill.ย

We are looking for a fractional consultant who has built andย operatedย these programs in a healthcare context โ€” someone who can architect the systems, build the playbooks, and guide our teams through the first implementations, so we launch with credible, repeatable processes rather than improvised ones.ย

What We Need Builtย

The engagement covers three provider growth program areas. These are service offerings that NGS will deliver to its healthcare clients โ€” not internalย Neolytixย functions.ย

ย

1. Referral Network Developmentย

Priority: Highest.ย This is the program area where specialized experience matters most.ย

NGS offers a managed physician referral development service โ€” systematic outbound outreach to referring physicians and specialist offices on behalf of our clientsโ€™ clinical practices. This is B2B sales for patient volume:ย identifyingย high-value referral sources, building relationships, and converting them into consistent referral patterns.ย

What the consultant will design:ย

  • Referral source identification and prioritization frameworkย โ€” how to map a clientโ€™s market,ย identifyย the highest-value referring physicians by specialty, geography, and payer network, and rank outreach targetsย

  • Outreach cadence and contact strategyย โ€” who to contact at each practice (office manager, care coordinator, physician), the sequence of touchpoints, and escalation paths when initial outreach stallsย

  • Call scripts and messaging frameworksย โ€” tailored by specialty (behavioral health referral conversations are different from orthopedic or dental) and by relationship stage (cold outreach, warm follow-up, reactivation)ย

  • Referral agreement and MOU templatesย โ€” lightweight partnership documents that formalize the referral relationship without requiring legal review on every dealย

  • CRM configuration and tracking modelย โ€” how referral pipeline stages, activity logging, and attribution should be set up in HubSpot (Neolytixโ€™sย CRM) to measure program performanceย

  • Attribution and reporting frameworkย โ€” how referral volume, conversion, and downstream revenue are tracked and reported to clientsย

  • US/offshore operating modelย โ€” which tasks require a US-based relationship manager vs. what can be executed by the Manila outreach team during US business hoursย

ย

2. Corporate Wellness & Employer Partnershipsย

Priority: Medium.ย Moderately specialized โ€” benefits from experience but has a lower barrier to entry than referral development.ย

NGS offers clients the ability toย establishย preferred-provider relationships with local employers โ€” including on-site screening days, flu shot drives, employee wellness programs, and direct employer-to-practice referral pathways. Credentialing with the employerโ€™s health plan is verified before the first employee walks in (a differentiator onlyย Neolytixย can deliver because credentialing is a core service line).ย

What the consultant will design:ย

  • Employer outreach playbookย โ€” target identification (HR departments, benefits managers, local employers by size and industry), outreach sequences, and value propositions by employer typeย

  • Partnership agreement templatesย โ€” preferred-provider arrangements, screening dayย logisticsย agreements, and co-marketing termsย

  • Campaign execution checklistsย โ€” end-to-end workflows for screening days, wellness fairs, and employer health programs, including coordination with credentialing, patient access, and clinical teamsย

  • ROI measurement modelย โ€” how to track employer-sourced patient volume and revenue for client reportingย

ย

3. Community Presence & Local Partnership Campaignsย

Priority: Lower.ย Primarily an execution play. Playbook design isย relatively straightforwardย โ€” the complexity is operational coordination, which is an internalย Neolytixย muscle.ย

NGS runs community health screenings, local business cross-referral partnerships (gyms, pharmacies, senior living, schools, EAPs), and health education events on behalf of clients. These campaigns require coordinating marketing, clinical, and patient access teams simultaneously โ€” a capabilityย Neolytixย uniquelyย possessesย because those functions already exist in the company.ย

What the consultant will design:ย

  • Campaign blueprints by typeย โ€” community screening, cross-referral partnership, health education event โ€” each with a planning timeline, resource requirements, promotion playbook, and post-event conversion workflowย

  • Local partnership outreach templatesย โ€” scripts and materials for approaching gyms, pharmacies, schools, senior living facilities, and EAPs about co-marketing or referral arrangementsย

  • Post-event follow-up and conversion playbookย โ€” how screening attendees or partner referrals are captured, followed up, and converted into scheduled appointmentsย

ย

Engagement Structureย

The engagement is designed in three phases. Phases are sequential but may overlap. Hours are billed as incurred with no minimum commitment โ€” scope and pacing areย determinedย collaboratively.ย

Phaseย

Focusย

Deliverablesย

Phase 1ย

Program Designย

Design the playbooks, frameworks, scripts, and operating models for all three program areas. Referral Network Development receives the deepest treatment.ย

  • Referral development playbook (complete)ย

  • Corporate wellness playbookย

  • Community campaign blueprintsย

  • CRM configuration specย

  • US/offshore task allocation modelย

Phase 2ย

Guided Implementationย

Work alongside the NGS team to execute the first 2โ€“3 client implementations.ย Refine playbooks based on real-world feedback. Train internal team leads on program execution.ย

  • Live client implementations (referral dev + one other)ย

  • Playbook revisions based on field dataย

  • Team training sessions and knowledge transferย

  • KPI benchmarks fromย initialย campaignsย

Phase 3ย

Advisory & Vertical Expansionย

Light-touch advisory as the internal team takes over day-to-day execution.ย Available for troubleshooting, new vertical playbook adaptation (e.g., adapting referral playbook from behavioral health to dental DSO), and periodic program reviews.ย

  • Vertical-specific playbook adaptations as neededย

  • Quarterly program performance reviewย

  • Ad-hoc consultation on escalationsย

Whoย Weโ€™reย Looking Forย

This is a program design and advisory engagement, not an execution or management role. The ideal candidate has built growth infrastructure for healthcare organizations and can transfer that knowledge into documented, repeatable systems.ย

ย

Background That Mattersย

  • Director or VP of Business Development, Physician Relations, or Provider Growthย at a multi-location physician group, MSO, DSO, or ambulatory-focused health system. Hospital-only BD experience (focused on inpatient volume) is less relevant โ€” NGS clients are outpatient/ambulatory practices.ย

  • Hands-on experience building or managing a physician liaison / referral development program.ย Not just overseeing one โ€” actually designing the outreach workflows, scripts, and measurement systems.ย

  • Experience with healthcare employer/corporate wellness partnershipsย is a strongย plus, butย notย requiredย if referral development depth is strong.ย

  • Familiarity with CRM-driven outreach modelsย (HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar) โ€” the consultant should have opinions on pipeline configuration and activity tracking, not just use a CRM that someone elseย setย up.ย

ย

What This Person Is NOTย

To save everyone time in screening โ€” this role is not a fit for:ย

  • Marketing professionals (this is B2B business development and program architecture, not digitalย marketingย or branding)ย

  • Call center or outreach team managers (thatโ€™sย a downstream hire once the playbooks exist)ย

  • Payer relations or contracting specialists (different discipline entirely)ย

  • General healthcare consultants without specific referral program or physician liaison experienceย

ย

Aboutย Neolytixย & NGSย

Neolytixย is a healthcare operations company โ€” 14+ years, 220+ employees across the US, India, and the Philippines, serving 270+ US healthcare provider organizations. Core services include revenue cycle management, credentialing and payer enrollment, medical coding, patient access, and virtual medical assistants.ย

Neolytixย Growth Services (NGS) is the companyโ€™s integrated growth division, formally consolidatingย PracticeTechย Solutions (a digital marketing agencyย Neolytixย hasย operatedย for several years) with new service lines in referral network development, employer partnerships, and community health campaigns. The strategic thesis: no other vendor in the market can deliver patient acquisition, referral development, and the operational backbone (credentialing, patient access, RCM) thatย determinesย whether marketingย actually convertsย into collected revenue โ€” all under one partner relationship.ย

The provider growth programs this consultant will design are core NGS service offerings sold to healthcare clients. They sit alongside NGSโ€™s existing digital marketing capabilities (SEO/AEO, paid search, reputation management, web development) and are differentiated by their operational linkage toย Neolytixโ€™sย credentialing, enrollment, and patient access infrastructure.ย
