Job description

The Director of Manufacturing is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, performance, and continuous improvement of all manufacturing operations across multiple facilities. This position provides hands-on leadership across Production, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, and Supply Chain functions to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing in alignment with the organization’s operational and financial goals.

The Director of Manufacturing plays a pivotal role in driving production excellence, ensuring regulatory compliance, developing future leaders, and fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and operational excellence.



Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage manufacturing operations across assigned facilities to achieve key performance targets in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Develop and implement standardized manufacturing processes, policies, and best practices that enhance efficiency and product quality.
  • Partner with senior leadership to define and execute manufacturing strategy, including capacity planning, automation, and modernization initiatives.
  • Oversee budgeting, cost control, and capital expenditures to maintain financial discipline and optimize resource utilization.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other operational excellence methodologies.
  • Ensure all manufacturing operations meet or exceed regulatory, environmental, and safety standards.
  • Develop and mentor plant managers and functional leaders, building a high-performing, cross-functional manufacturing leadership team.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure seamless coordination between production planning, procurement, and product delivery.
  • Track and analyze key manufacturing metrics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between manufacturing facilities and corporate leadership, providing regular performance updates and strategic recommendations.
  • Represent the company in supplier, customer, and industry engagements as needed.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Management, or a related field (required).
  • Master’s degree or advanced certification in Operations Management, Lean/Six Sigma, or Business Administration (preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing or industrial operations, including multi-site leadership.
  • 5+ years in a senior management role overseeing production, quality, and maintenance functions.
  • Demonstrated success in managing budgets, capital projects, and large-scale process improvement initiatives.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes, production systems, quality assurance, and plant operations.
  • Strong understanding of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and process optimization.
  • Experience leading teams in unionized or diverse workforce environments.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and develop others.
  • Strategic mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Financial acumen with proven ability to manage costs and drive profitability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to influence and build relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Skilled in performance tracking, KPI development, and operational reporting.


Work Environment

  • Based at corporate headquarters or one of the primary manufacturing sites, with regular travel to facilities as needed.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend availability depending on production schedules and project demands.
