Description

Georgia Humanities is seeking an experienced, relationship driven Director of Development to lead the organization's fundraising strategy and grow a diverse base of philanthropic support. This role is responsible for individual giving, foundation and corporate relations, grant management alongside program staff, and special event fundraising, including National History Day and Smithsonian Museum on Main Street. The Director will work closely with the President to build a sustainable development program that matches the scale of Georgia Humanities' mission and its impact across the state.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fundraising Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and lead an annual and multi year fundraising strategy that grows individual, foundation, corporate, and government support for Georgia Humanities.
  • Set annual revenue goals in partnership with the President and board, and track progress against those goals throughout the year.
  • Build and manage a development plan that includes annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate sponsorship, and grant revenue.
  • Advise the President and board on fundraising priorities, donor strategy, and organizational readiness for capital or endowment campaigns.

Major & Individual Giving

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major donors and prospects across the state.
  • Develop personalized cultivation plans for top donors and prospects, and manage a regular schedule of donor visits, calls, and touchpoints.
  • Grow the annual fund and mid level giving program through direct mail, email, and digital fundraising campaigns, in coordination with the communications team.
  • Support the President and board members in their own donor cultivation and solicitation efforts.

Foundation, Corporate & Government Relations

  • Research and identify new foundation, corporate, and government funding opportunities aligned with Georgia Humanities' programs.
  • Write and manage compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funder reports, working closely with program staff to gather outcomes and impact data.
  • Maintain relationships with current funders and manage compliance with matching fund and reporting requirements.
  • Cultivate new corporate sponsors and partners for programs and events.

Events & Campaigns

  • Lead fundraising strategy and sponsorship efforts for National History Day and Smithsonian Museum on Main Street.
  • Plan and execute donor cultivation events, recognition events, and giving campaigns throughout the year.
  • Partner with the communications team on donor communications, campaign messaging, and event promotion. 

Operations, Data & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate donor records and gift tracking in the organization's donor database, and ensure timely, accurate gift acknowledgment and recognition.
  • Manage the development budget and track fundraising expenses against revenue goals.
  • Prepare regular fundraising reports and dashboards for the President and board, highlighting progress, trends, and opportunities.
  • Ensure development practices comply with relevant regulations and best practices in nonprofit fundraising and gift acceptance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree and three to five years of experience in fundraising or related field, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
