Candidates often compare these roles when exploring opportunities in semiconductor and electronics industries.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Digital Verification Engineers and how can they be addressed?

Remote Digital Verification Engineers often encounter challenges related to communication and collaboration, particularly when working with global teams across different time zones. Ensuring clear documentation and leveraging collaboration tools like version control systems and project management platforms can help mitigate these challenges. Additionally, staying proactive in asking questions and participating in regular virtual meetings can foster smoother workflows. Adapting to remote work also requires strong self-discipline and time management skills to meet tight project deadlines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Digital Verification Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Digital Verification Engineer, you need expertise in digital design principles, verification methodologies, and a relevant engineering degree, often supported by experience with ASIC or FPGA projects. Familiarity with technical tools like SystemVerilog, UVM, simulation environments, and version control systems is critical, as is proficiency with scripting languages such as Python or Perl. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are standout soft skills, especially when collaborating across distributed teams. These skills and qualities are vital for ensuring accurate, efficient verification of complex digital systems while maintaining productivity in a remote work environment.

What does a Remote Digital Verification Engineer do?

A Remote Digital Verification Engineer is responsible for ensuring the functionality and reliability of digital hardware designs, such as integrated circuits, by developing and running tests to identify and fix design flaws. Working remotely, they use simulation tools, write testbenches in languages like SystemVerilog or UVM, and collaborate with design teams to validate that the digital circuits meet the required specifications. Their work helps prevent costly errors in the final product and ensures a smooth manufacturing process. Being remote, they rely on digital communication and project management tools to collaborate effectively with team members worldwide.

Job description

FindTalent is hiring a highly skilled Substation Commissioning Engineer to support critical utility infrastructure projects across the U.S. This remote-based role is ideal for a technically proficient professional who can work independently while traveling full-time to high-voltage substation construction sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and executing the commissioning, testing, and operational verification of substation systems up to 500kV.

This role plays a key part in ensuring systems are installed correctly, operate reliably, and meet all design and compliance requirements. While the position is remote, it requires 100% travel to various project sites nationwide, with per diem, travel support, and regular paid trips home.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead substation commissioning activities for transmission and distribution projects from pre-energization through closeout.

  • Perform and supervise functional testing of protection and control systems, relays, and high-voltage equipment.

  • Validate field installations against engineering drawings and technical specifications.

  • Troubleshoot equipment and system issues, recommend solutions, and direct corrective actions on-site.

  • Develop and manage commissioning procedures, isolation plans, outage schedules, and safety protocols.

  • Collaborate closely with field crews, testing teams, and client stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient commissioning.

  • Review and approve test results and verify correct equipment operation per system design.

  • Coordinate with engineering to identify and address design conflicts or field modifications.

  • Ensure documentation is complete and accurate, including test reports, redlined drawings, and regulatory submissions.

  • Provide real-time updates to project management and maintain consistent communication with all stakeholders.

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (foreign equivalents accepted).

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in substation field commissioning, construction, or protection & control engineering.

  • Strong working knowledge of substation equipment and protection schemes, including relay logic and SCADA integration.

  • Proficiency with relay testing and communication software such as Enoserve RTS, Doble Protection Suite, SEL Compass, and AcSELerator Quickset.

  • Familiarity with NETA, IEEE, and utility specifications related to substation construction and testing.

  • Experience testing and commissioning equipment such as breakers, transformers, CTs, PTs, relays, panels, and battery systems.

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills in field environments.

  • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical drawings and system schematics.

  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted driverโ€™s license.

  • Must pass drug screening and background checks.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Willing and able to travel 100% for extended periods; per diem and scheduled paid trips home are provided.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with substation commissioning for voltage levels up to 500kV.

  • Familiarity with SEL, GE, and ABB digital relays.

  • Previous leadership in field-based substation or utility projects.

  • Working knowledge of construction sequencing and safety practices for energized environments.

Benefits & Compensation:
Our client offers a robust and competitive benefits package, including:

  • Competitive Base Salary (Dependent on Experience)

  • Full Per Diem and Paid Travel Support

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance

  • 401(k) with Employer Match

  • Life and Disability Insurance

  • Opportunities for Career Development and Specialized Training
