What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Die Casting Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Die Casting Design Engineer, you need strong expertise in mechanical engineering, materials science, and die casting processes, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency in CAD software (such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD), simulation tools, and familiarity with manufacturing standards are essential. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating remotely with teams and clients. These competencies ensure efficient design, manufacturability, and high-quality die-cast products in a remote work environment.

How does collaboration typically work for remote die casting design professionals when coordinating with manufacturing teams?

Remote die casting design professionals regularly collaborate with manufacturing engineers, project managers, and quality assurance teams through virtual meetings, shared CAD platforms, and cloud-based project management tools. While not onsite, they are expected to participate in real-time design reviews, provide technical drawings, and quickly address feedback on manufacturability. Effective communication and proactive coordination are essential to ensure that design specifications align with production capabilities, minimize errors, and keep projects on schedule.

What is remote die casting design?

Remote die casting design involves creating and optimizing molds, parts, and processes for die casting—all while working from a location outside of a traditional manufacturing facility. Designers use specialized CAD software and collaborate with teams through digital communication tools to ensure components meet quality and production standards. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate with engineers, manufacturers, and clients remotely. Remote die casting designers help streamline production by providing efficient design solutions and troubleshooting issues virtually.

PSW Group is a leading magnesium and aluminum manufacturer advancing nonferrous metal technologies. We are investing in a state-of-the-art High Integrity Diecasting Center which focuses on HPVDC, semi-solid casting, and other new technologies for aluminum and magnesium casting development. This center will drive nextgeneration casting solutions for automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics and other

We are seeking a highly skilled Tooling and Die Design Engineer with 3 to 5 years of experience specialized in aluminum and magnesium high-pressure die casting (HPDC). This role bridges advanced simulation engineering with high-stakes customer collaboration. The ideal candidate will possess advanced capabilities in 3D flow and solidification modeling alongside the outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. You will frequently work closely with client engineering teamsincluding on-site collaboration at their facilitiesto optimize part designs for manufacturing and lead tooling development from concept to production launch.

Core Responsibilities

  • Tooling Design & Simulation Engineering
  • Advanced Simulation: Utilize MAGMA5, FLOW-3D, or equivalent liquid flow modeling tools to perform comprehensive 3D flow, thermal, and solidification simulations.
  • Die & Gating Design: Design and optimize complete die casting tooling layouts, including gating systems, runners, overflows, venting, and thermal management (cooling/heating) channels.
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Lead detailed DFM reviews, translating simulation results into concrete engineering recommendations for wall thicknesses, draft angles, fillets, and parting lines.
  • Troubleshooting & Optimization: Analyze production tooling wear or casting defects and engineer permanent design modifications to improve die life and quality yields.
  • OEM Customer Interface & Collaboration
  • On-Site Technical Liaison: Embed with OEM customer engineering teams at their sites during early development phases to provide face-to-face technical support and build strong, trusting partnerships.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Translate complex fluid dynamics and metallurgical data into clear, actionable design feedback for both highly technical internal teams and external client stakeholders.
  • NPI Support: Actively participate in prototype builds and early New Product Introduction (NPI) phases to ensure client expectations align perfectly with production realities.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain rigorous documentation for design changes, simulation logs, control plans, and customer design sign-offs.
