What is a remote developer advocate?

A Remote Developer Advocate is a professional who works primarily from a remote location to bridge the gap between software developers and a company’s products or services. They engage with developer communities, create technical content, and provide feedback to internal teams to improve products. Their main goal is to support and empower developers by offering guidance, resources, and advocacy, all while working outside of a traditional office environment. This role often involves public speaking, writing tutorials, and building community relationships online.

How does a remote developer advocate typically collaborate with engineering and product teams?

As a remote Developer Advocate, you will frequently collaborate with engineering and product teams through virtual meetings, asynchronous communication (like Slack or email), and shared documentation platforms. Your role involves acting as a bridge between external developers and internal teams, so you’ll often gather feedback from the developer community and relay it to shape product features or identify pain points. Building strong relationships across departments and proactively communicating insights are key to ensuring that developer needs are understood and prioritized, even when working remotely.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote developer advocate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Developer Advocate, you need a strong background in software development, technical writing, and public speaking, often supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with developer tools, cloud platforms, APIs, and content management systems—as well as experience using platforms like GitHub and documentation tools—is typical. Excellent communication, community engagement, and collaboration skills are crucial for building trust and fostering relationships with developer communities. These abilities ensure you can effectively bridge the gap between engineering teams and external developers, driving product adoption and user satisfaction.

Job description

Noda is a data and analytics company for the commercial built environment. We reimagine how modern buildings operate - because a better world needs better buildings. Better buildings are more efficient, more sustainable, and more resilient. They are intelligent, autonomous ecosystems that anticipate and adapt, seamlessly.
With commercial building operations accounting for nearly 30% of global emissions, we're on a mission to turn buildings into a force for positive change, powering a more efficient, more sustainable world. We do this with smart software, careful use of modern artificial intelligence, sophisticated data models, and custom interfaces to building systems - and a lot of in-depth knowledge about how commercial buildings actually run.
We're a young, nimble company where we very much value creative thinking, a love of team work, and a determination to solve the problem, whatever it is. Priorities can shift fast, so adaptability and flexibility come with the territory. The consequence is that you'll have a chance to make a real impact, backed by a supportive team
The Mission
You will spend much of your time working with the Building Systems Engineering and Customer Success team to drive customer value. You will also work closely with Noda's product and engineering teams to aid in onboarding building systems data, improving data processing, and quality tooling, and iterating on Noda's cutting-edge AI-based technology.
Who You'll Partner With
You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with our Customer Success team and fellow Building Systems Engineers. Together, you'll mitigate churn, drive renewals, and act as the voice of the customer, feeding critical insights directly into our product roadmap.
Your Roadmap
  • Month 1: Integration. Master the Noda stack (Platform, Salesforce, Slack, etc.), dive into our library of building recommendations, and start shadowing client calls.
  • Month 2: Engagement. Take the lead on account servicing, support new opportunities and mitigate churn alongside Commercial, and start demonstrating deep product proficiency.
  • Month 6: Expertise. Become the go-to technical authority. You'll be driving solution enhancements, collaborating with the Product team, and mastering both the engineering and financial dimensions of building performance.
What You Bring
  • Experience: 5+ years in energy consulting or a related field.
  • Technical Fluency: Deep knowledge of HVAC/Controls systems (chillers, boilers, BMS, etc.) and the ability to quantify energy savings
  • Energy Savings Mastery: You possess the quantitative skills to model efficiency initiatives, converting system optimizations into verified fiscal impact
  • Communication: You translate "tech-speak" into clear, compelling business value for both operating and executive customer personas
  • Relational Skills: You know how to build trust, manage relationships, and advocate for customer success
  • Drive: A passion for SaaS, a bias for action, a curiosity for AI and innovation, and strong leadership instincts
  • Education: BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
  • Bonus: Prior experience in SaaS customer success, familiarity with SkySpark, proficiency with agentic AI tooling
Why we think you'll love it here
  • Huge responsibility and fascinating challenges - you'll be joining us early on in our journey, with plenty of autonomy and room to develop your role.
  • Joining a fast-growing team of brilliant people building solutions at the forefront of smart building technology!

We offer a great work environment, a clear development path, and many tangible benefits, here just a handful:

  • Competitive salary and equity participation.
  • Highly flexible and autonomous working
  • Paid personal development days
