Remote Defense Consulting information

What is remote defense consulting?

Remote defense consulting involves providing expert advice and solutions to defense organizations, contractors, or governments while working from a location outside of the client's physical site. Consultants in this field may help with strategy, cybersecurity, compliance, risk assessment, procurement, or operational planning, all conducted virtually using secure communication tools. This arrangement enables access to specialized expertise regardless of geographic location, increasing flexibility and reducing costs.

How do remote defense consultants typically collaborate with on-site teams and clients to ensure project success?

Remote defense consultants often rely on a combination of secure digital communication tools, scheduled virtual meetings, and shared documentation platforms to stay aligned with on-site teams and clients. Effective collaboration requires clear communication protocols, regular status updates, and an understanding of sensitive data handling procedures. Many organizations use secure video conferencing and project management software tailored to defense industry standards to facilitate seamless teamwork. This collaborative approach helps remote consultants contribute valuable expertise while maintaining compliance with security requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote defense consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Defense Consultant, you need a deep understanding of defense strategies, security protocols, and relevant industry regulations, often supported by experience in military or government roles and advanced degrees. Familiarity with secure communication platforms, data analysis tools, and certifications like CISSP or PMP are highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, adaptability, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for success in virtual and cross-functional environments. These competencies ensure the ability to provide strategic guidance, maintain security compliance, and deliver impactful solutions to defense clients remotely.

Re-posted 11 days ago

Key responsibilities

  • Manage insurance defense cases from inception through resolution, including discovery, mediation, and trial preparation.

  • Draft, edit, file, and coordinate litigation documents such as pleadings, motions, subpoenas, discovery requests and responses, and notices.

  • Maintain case files, monitor court deadlines, and assist with trial preparation and case-related projects.

Job description

About the opportunity
Equivity is seeking an experienced Insurance Defense Paralegal to support attorneys handling a broad range of insurance-related litigation matters, including bodily injury claims, premises liability, construction defect, property damage disputes, transportation and trucking matters, professional liability claims, product liability cases, coverage disputes, bad faith litigation, and general liability defense.

This is an assignment-based opportunity designed for paralegals who value the flexibility of remote work and enjoy supporting a variety of law firms and matters across the country. As client needs evolve, assignments and workload may vary based on business demand. This role is a good fit for an experienced paralegal who values professional flexibility and is comfortable with a workload that can fluctuate rather than requiring a guaranteed number of weekly hours from the outset.

When actively supporting clients, responsiveness is important. Because client needs can arise on short notice, paralegals are expected to remain responsive to their active clients and Equivity managers within one hour during their stated availability.

If you're an experienced paralegal who appreciates autonomy, remote flexibility, and the opportunity to work with multiple legal teams, this assignment-based model may be a strong fit.

What You’ll Do:
  • Manage insurance defense cases from inception through resolution, including discovery, mediation, and trial preparation.
  • Maintain organized electronic case files and ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Draft, edit, and file pleadings, motions, subpoenas, discovery requests and responses, notices, and other litigation documents.
  • Coordinate e-filings and maintain accurate proof of service and filing records.
  • Review, organize, and summarize medical records, claim files, expert reports, deposition transcripts, business records, and other case-related documents.
  • Assist with preparation of written discovery, document production, privilege logs, and case management reports.
  • Coordinate depositions, inspections, independent medical examinations, mediations, expert consultations, and hearings.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, insurance carriers, adjusters, experts, opposing counsel, court personnel, and other parties.
  • Prepare exhibits, witness lists, trial binders, mediation materials, and other litigation support documents.
  • Maintain litigation calendars, monitor court deadlines, and ensure case files and correspondence are accurately maintained.
  • Assist attorneys with trial preparation and other case-related projects as needed.

About You:
  • 3+ years of insurance defense paralegal experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Minimum availability of 20 hours/week to start
  • Experience supporting insurance defense, general liability, construction defect, premises liability, transportation, property damage, professional liability, coverage, or related litigation matters
  • Strong understanding of civil litigation procedures, discovery, case management, and trial preparation
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple active litigation matters
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe
  • Experience with legal software such as Clio, Filevine, or similar platforms is a plus
  • Windows-based computer preferred
  • Availability and responsiveness within 1 hour during standard business hours (9:00 AM – 6:00 PM)

Compensation and Work Structure
  • W-2 employment
  • Compensation: $26 per hour
  • Assignment-based work with client assignments determined by demand, qualifications, and availability
  • Assignment volume and hours may vary
  • Client assignments may take time to develop and are not guaranteed immediately upon joining

Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid sick time
  • Annual performance bonus
  • 6-month performance review with potential pay increase
  • Expense reimbursement
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Supportive long-term remote work environment
