Job description

The Sr. Salesforce Architect will report to the Director, Software Engineering in the Technology Department. This role is responsible for overseeing the design and architecture of the solutions deployed to our Salesforce platform. The incumbent will need a deep understanding of the Salesforce platform and toolsets. This includes the Sales, Financial Services, Service, Experience and Marketing Clouds. This role will partner with developers and business analysts to drive business goals and efficiencies. This role will provide cohesive, streamlined and quality solutions by taking an advisory and partnering role. With a focus on development and integration, this role utilizes best practices and technologies to configure solutions to meet business challenges and integrate across systems to help drive our digital transformation. This role will interface, build, and maintain relationships with internal/external clients. This role will also mentor team members.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Architect, design, and integrate Salesforce solutions as a subject matter expert (SME) and advisor. Collaborate and partner with stakeholders to elicit business and functional requirements.
  • Design secure, scalable, and sustainable solutions alongside our technical leaders, pairing with developers on design as needed; produce clear architecture diagrams, detailed design documentation, proofs-of-concept, and prototypes.
  • Help establish and promote Salesforce development standards, coding best practices, and governance in partnership with the development team.
  • Map out and maintain Salesforce application architecture, data architecture, and journey maps of our application experience.
  • Present architecture, designs, and technical recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including business and executive stakeholders.
  • Own and refine the Salesforce technical backlog in partnership with business analysts and developers, including writing clear technical user stories and acceptance criteria; lead Salesforce projects using Agile principles.
  • Maintain strong understanding of Salesforce Declarative Programming and Administration (develop code, custom objects, Visual Force pages, Apex, reports, workflows, and assignment rules).
  • Maintain proficiency in these elements in order to effectively mentor developers, review code, and set technical best practices.
  • Review test coverage and code quality, and guide defect resolution as needed.
  • Contribute to areas such as web security, REST/SOAP APIs and system monitoring concepts.
  • Participate in Disaster Recovery planning and testing.
  • Lead the review of Salesforce's seasonal release notes with the development team, evaluate new features, deprecations, and platform changes for impact on our org, and translate findings into actionable internal work and backlog items.
  • Provide weekly status updates to management.
  • Own the architecture and technical roadmap for a specific Salesforce cloud or program area.
  • Communicate clear priorities and relevant information to implement day-to-day work.
  • Resolve the most difficult problems facing the team, program, or specialty area.
  • Provide technical feedback and code/design review to developers on the team.
  • Identify the right situations for coaching, feedback, and training.
  • Remove barriers for the team. Ensure team members have all the tools, resources, and context to execute.
  • Mentor developers and business analysts on Salesforce best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • 7 to 10 years of overall technology experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Current Salesforce Application Architect certification strongly preferred; System Architect certification or progress toward CTA a plus

Skills & Abilities:

  • 4 to 6 years of hands-on Salesforce development and architecture, with deep expertise in at least one cloud (Sales, Service, Experience, Marketing, or Financial Services Cloud). Additional cloud exposure is a plus
    • At least three years of experience in Agile principles and frameworks
    • Prior work experience in a financial services industry preferred
    • Hands-on architecture experience in at least one Salesforce cloud (Sales, Service, Experience, or Marketing); Financial Services Cloud experience strongly preferred
    • 2 to 3 years leading or mentoring developers on Salesforce projects
    • Experience with Salesforce DevOps tooling (Copado, Gearset, Flosum, or native CI/CD) and release management in a multi-org environment
    • Familiarity with Salesforce platform tools such as Shield (Platform Encryption, Event Monitoring, Field Audit Trail), OwnBackup, or similar backup, security, and compliance tools is a plus
    • Working knowledge of MuleSoft or equivalent middleware for cross-system integration
    • Experience with Lightning Web Components (LWC); Visualforce/Aura familiarity a plus for legacy maintenance
  • The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of demonstrating:
    • Deep understanding of object-oriented design and programming concepts
    • Experience and strong understanding of DevOps frameworks and automation
    • Familiarity with Apex and general object-oriented programming concepts
    • Solid understanding of web technologies such as HTTP, JavaScript, AJAX, HTML and CSS
    • Solid knowledge of SQL and understanding of relational databases
    • Comfortable creating architecture and process diagrams (e.g., Lucidchart, Visio, Mermaid, or similar) to support documentation and stakeholder alignment
    • Prioritize, multi-task and complete tasks within timelines
    • Excellent analysis and problem-solving abilities
    • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear diagrams and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences
