Job description

Looking for your next Azure cloud data engineering challenge? If you're an experienced Database Engineer with a passion for Azure, Databricks, and modern data platforms, we'd love to hear from you.
SYSCOM is seeking an experienced Azure Database Engineer to join a large-scale cloud modernization initiative supporting a major enterprise organization. You'll help design and implement Azure Data Lakes, cloud databases, and enterprise data solutions while working with technologies such as Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and Azure SQL. This approximately 10-month consulting opportunity offers the chance to work on a high-impact modernization project alongside a collaborative technical team, with the potential for extensions based on project needs.
Project Duration: Approximately 10-month contract to start. Extensions may be available based on project needs but are not guaranteed.
Work Location: Remote/Hybrid. Candidates should be available to work onsite in St. Paul, MN, as needed for meetings, collaboration, or project requirements, but the primary work location will be remote.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement relational and non-relational databases in Azure.
- Develop and implement data transformations.
- Ensure data access patterns are optimized.
- Maintain necessary documentation.
- Coordinate with necessary teams to meet security standards.
- Implement disaster recovery solutions.
- Provide knowledge transfer.
Must Have Qualifications
- Experience designing, developing, and implementing data lakes and relational and non-relational databases in Azure.
- Experience with Databricks.
- Strong experience developing and implementing data transformation solutions and cloud infrastructure integration.
- Strong experience coding and testing programs and scripts to load data using Azure data load utilities.
- Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with cloud computing concepts.
- Experience with tools such as Azure Monitor, Azure Data Factory, SQL Analytics, Query Performance Insight, Azure Resource Manager, and Azure CLI/PowerShell for infrastructure management.
- Experience developing and implementing backup and recovery strategies using tools such as Azure Backup or Geo-replication.
- Experience with role-based access control, encryption, and network security.
- Approximately 7 years of experience designing, developing, and implementing data lakes and relational and non-relational databases in Azure.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Oracle databases.
- Experience mentoring others in the required technologies.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of data concepts, data modeling, schema design, and indexing strategies.
- Knowledge of Azure SQL instances, managed instances, and elastic pools.
