Position Summary

The Investments Director is an integral part of the Impact Investment Group that is focused on making investments that generate equitable economic prosperity and promote community health throughout the country. The Director will be responsible for sourcing and executing impact investments, managing portfolio companies, reporting to stakeholders, supporting the development of the Investments Team's infrastructure within Momentus, and assisting in the management of fund-level performance. The Director will work closely with portfolio companies across the country to generate measurable impact and rationalized investment returns.

This position reports to the Managing Director of Investments and can be located in the Arlington, VA, California offices, or New York City metropolitan area and/or 100% remote.

Essential Responsibilities

       Proactively identifying potential investment opportunities using own network and knowledge base

       Screening new investment opportunities to assess their fit with the fund's mandate

       Analyzing the competitive landscape for potential investments

       Working with and overseeing junior-level professionals on the team

       Supporting and leading the due diligence process with potential investments

       Working on financial models to assess cash requirements for key milestones within potential investments and current portfolio companies

       Tracking progress of portfolio companies post investment

       Supporting executives in their board responsibilities and, over time, assuming select board responsibilities

       Working on investment updates and valuations for quarterly and annual reports

       Coordinating due diligence processes

       Supporting and leading negotiation of terms for new investments

       Contributing to knowledge management and translation of project and programmatic data

       Tracking fund deal flow and coordinating reports and summaries for weekly team meetings

       Compiling impact data for portfolio companies

       Providing organizational support as needed

Requirements

Professional Skills, Education and Experience

       Completion of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, plus a graduate degree or relevant level of experience

       5+ years of work experience in a position providing extensive exposure to investing into companies

       Experience developing financial models and conducting sensitivity analysis

       Investment experience in the health, food, co-op or social entrepreneurship sectors

       Demonstrated experience in preparing and negotiating complex transactions and balancing the programmatic needs of community-based organizations with sound underwriting judgment and risk mitigation

       Familiarity with one or more of Capital Impact's five core geographies

       Ability to generate deal flow using own contacts and experience

       Demonstrated interest in and experience in impact investing

       Exposure to boards of directors as a member or observer

       Experience leading the due diligence process for potential investments

       Ability to interact with bankers, investors and others

       Highly skilled in writing investment summaries, investment memos, preparing PowerPoint presentations and related word-processing and spreadsheet skills

       Comfort working in an environment with little supervision

       Demonstrated ability to be proactive and organized in working independently, as well as in interacting with team members and external stakeholders (investors, companies, co-investors, etc.)

       Strong communication and presentation skills

       Strong attention to detail, analytical, critical thinking and organization skills

       Strong written and verbal communication skills

       Demonstrated ability to take initiative and leverage knowledge and resources to solve problems

       Experience prioritizing and managing multiple projects, assignments and meeting tight deadlines

       Passion for community and economic development, impact investing, and social justice

       Advanced user of Excel, Word, Power Point and Google Suite. Experience with Salesforce is a plus

       Ability to travel up to 20% of the time

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $142,244 - $190,000 and may be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive.

  • Structure A: $142,244 - $170,000 All locations except Structures B and C
  • Structure B: $158,048 - $180,000 Washington, D.C.; Maryland; Virginia (DMV); non-Bay Area California markets; and Massachusetts
  • Structure C: $173,379 - $190,000 New York; New Jersey; and the California Bay Area
