Job description

Description
Build the Data Foundation Powering the Future of Veterinary Healthcare
Remote -residing in Austin, TX preferred, but not required.

Innovetive Petcare is seeking a highly technical, hands-on Database Architect to design, build, and scale our modern enterprise data platform from the ground up.
This is not a pure strategy or oversight role. We are looking for a builder — someone who enjoys writing production-grade code, architecting scalable systems, and solving complex data problems across clinical, operational, and financial domains.
As a rapidly growing veterinary services organization, data is central to how we improve patient outcomes, optimize hospital operations, support clinicians, and drive smarter business decisions across our national network of veterinary practices.
You will own the architecture and evolution of our end-to-end data ecosystem while partnering directly with leadership and business stakeholders across the organization.
This is a remote-first opportunity with a clear growth path into technical leadership as the data organization expands.
  • Build a modern, cloud-native data platform from the ground up
  • Influence enterprise-wide architecture decisions
  • Work on meaningful healthcare-adjacent data challenges
  • Drive analytics that directly impact patient care and operational excellence
  • Join a high-growth organization with strong executive visibility
  • Remote-first culture with flexibility and autonomy
  • Opportunity to grow into a Data Engineering or Data Platform leadership role

What You'll Do
Data Platform Architecture & Engineering
  • Design, build, and maintain a scalable enterprise data platform using Snowflake
  • Architect ingestion pipelines across clinical, financial, operational, scheduling, and inventory systems
  • Implement scalable ELT/ETL workflows and data transformation pipelines
  • Define platform standards for:
    •  Data governance
    •  Naming conventions
    •  CI/CD workflows
    •  Environment management (dev/staging/prod)
    •  Testing and deployment strategies
  •  Manage Snowflake architecture, RBAC, security, cost optimization, and performance tuning
Data Modeling & TransformationOwn the dbt ecosystem end-to-end
  • Build scalable dimensional and canonical data models
  • Develop reliable marts and semantic layers for analytics consumption
  • Implement robust testing, lineage, and documentation standards
  • Create reusable transformation logic and framework standards
Business Intelligence & Analytics
  • Partner with finance, operations, and clinical leaders to deliver trusted Tableau dashboards and reporting layers
  • Build governed, self-service analytics capabilities
  • Optimize Tableau performance, row-level security, and published data sources
  • Translate ambiguous business questions into scalable technical solutions
Data Quality & Governance
  • Implement observability and monitoring solutions for:
    •  Data freshness
    •  Schema drift
    •  Pipeline failures
    •  Anomaly detection
  • Establish governance standards for sensitive and healthcare-adjacent data
  • Improve trust and reliability across enterprise reporting
Technical Leadership & Growth
  • Serve as a technical standard-bearer for architecture and engineering best practices
  • Help shape the future structure of the data organization
  • Mentor future team members as the function grows

Required Qualifications
Experience
  •  10+ years of hands-on experience in Data Architecture and Database Management
  •  Proven experience building and operating production-grade data platforms
  •  Experience working with complex, multi-source enterprise datasets
  •  Background supporting operational, financial, healthcare, or clinical data environments preferred
Technical Skills
  •  Advanced expertise with:
    •  Snowflake
    •  dbt
    •  Tableau
    •  SQL
    •  Python

    •  Airflow
    •  Prefect
    •  Dagster
  •  Strong understanding of:
    •  Cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
    •  Git workflows
    •  CI/CD pipelines
    •  Data governance and security best practices
What Makes You Successful
  •  You are deeply technical and enjoy building systems yourself
  •  You think architecturally and understand downstream data impacts
  •  You thrive in high-autonomy, remote-first environments
  •  You communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  •  You balance speed, scalability, reliability, and maintainability
Preferred Qualifications
  • Residing in Austin, Texas with easy access to our home office location
  • Experience in veterinary healthcare, healthcare technology, or other regulated industries
  • Exposure to healthcare-adjacent compliance and governance environments
