Industry UsageTelecommunications, cellular networks, public safety networksTelecommunications, wireless service providers, network infrastructure

The Remote Das Rf Engineer specializes in designing and deploying Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) for improved wireless coverage, often working on large-scale infrastructure projects. The Remote Rf Engineer has a broader focus on RF systems, including cellular and wireless network testing and troubleshooting. Both roles require similar certifications and industry knowledge but differ in their specific applications and project types.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote DAS RF Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote DAS RF Engineer, you need a strong background in wireless communications, RF engineering principles, and experience with Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), often supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with RF design tools (such as iBwave, Atoll, or DAS OEM software), network analyzers, and relevant certifications like iBwave Level 1 or 2 is typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective remote communication skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure reliable wireless coverage, efficient troubleshooting, and seamless coordination with clients and team members from remote locations.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote DAS RF Engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote DAS RF Engineers often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting signal issues without being physically present on-site and coordinating with on-site teams or vendors. Effective communication skills and the ability to interpret remote monitoring data are essential for diagnosing and resolving issues efficiently. Utilizing advanced network management tools and maintaining organized documentation can help streamline remote collaboration and problem resolution. Regular virtual meetings and clear reporting structures also support smooth workflows in a distributed team environment.

What does a Remote DAS RF Engineer do?

A Remote DAS RF Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) to enhance wireless coverage in buildings and other structures. They focus on radio frequency (RF) engineering tasks, such as signal testing, troubleshooting, and system integration, often working remotely to support multiple locations. These engineers collaborate with project managers, field technicians, and clients to ensure seamless wireless connectivity and compliance with industry standards. Their work helps improve mobile signal quality in areas where traditional coverage is weak or unavailable.

Boingo is growing, with a strong pipeline of exciting projects. We invest in the latest equipment and technology and offer competitive pay, including a quarterly bonus, 401(k) match, and excellent health, dental, and vision insurance. Plus, we provide tuition, gym, and cell phone reimbursements.ย

We're looking for a field engineer who's ready to take ownership of theirย set of DAS networksย -ย keeping systems running smoothly and partners satisfied. With cutting-edge technology at your fingertips and a top-notch team by your side, you'll have everything you need to succeed.ย

As the leader of your venue networks, you'll need to be highly energetic and customer-focused, with in-depth knowledge of Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) networks. You'll maintain and enhance system performance, while collaborating with a tight-knit team to tackle complex technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities:ย

  • Manage procurement for your venues, ensuring cost efficiency and budget adherence for hardware and subcontractor labor.ย
  • Optimize network performance by collaborating with system integrators and the operations deployment team during commissioning and integration.ย
  • Review and approve system integrator reports, ensuring compliance with carrier KPIs.ย
  • Analyze system health data, including Layer 3 messaging KPIs and carrier RAN metrics, and conduct quality control checks.ย
  • Perform routine health checks, preventative maintenance, and ensure system performance aligns with original turn-up standards.ย
  • Generate internal and external performance reports for stakeholders.ย
  • Conduct system testing, including RF sweep, fiber testing, PIM, and carrier handset testing.ย
  • Remotely monitor venues, troubleshooting issues, and coordinate subcontractor dispatch when necessary.ย
  • Build relationships with service providers to enhance system performance through data analysis.ย
  • Perform benchmark testing, RF site surveys, and create as-builts for new and existing venues.ย
  • Execute system modifications and additions, including DAS, Small Cell, and Wi-Fi equipment installations, rack stacking, and cable routing.ย
  • Work with hand and power tools, coaxial PPC compression tools, Cat5/6 terminations, and RF test equipment.ย
  • Maintain strong technical knowledge of wireless network products and ensure compliance with safety, business conduct, and quality assurance standards.ย

Requirements:ย

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience as a DAS or Cellular Field Engineer.ย
  • Familiarity with DAS OEMs (e.g., CommScope, JMA, Corning Mobile Access,ย SOLiD) and their performance benchmarks.ย
  • Experience managing subcontractors remotely across large regions.ย
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, RF schematics (iBwave /ย Ekahau), and blueprints.ย
  • Proficiency in updating reports and trouble tickets.ย
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., work outdoors, on ladders, and in confined spaces.ย
  • Experience with electrical wiring, ESD products, and working in construction or installation environments with minimal supervision.ย
  • Certifications in test equipment (e.g., Anritsu Sweep Master) and connector coring / compression techniques.ย
  • Basic LAN Layer 1 & 2 troubleshooting, including Cisco CLI knowledge.ย
  • Formal training or equivalent hands-on experience in basic installation procedures.ย
  • Willingness to travel within the Southwest region for up to a week and occasionally work shifts outside regular hours.ย
