What is a remote Da Vinci Robot operator?

A Remote Da Vinci Robot operator is a medical professional, often a surgeon, who uses the Da Vinci Surgical System to perform minimally invasive surgeries from a remote console. This advanced robotic system translates the surgeon’s hand movements into smaller, precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body. The remote capability enables surgeons to perform complex procedures with enhanced precision, flexibility, and control. It is commonly used in urology, gynecology, cardiac, and general surgeries. Training and certification are required to operate the Da Vinci Robot safely and effectively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote Da Vinci Robot operator?

To thrive as a Da Vinci Robot Operator, you need advanced surgical knowledge, steady manual dexterity, and specialized training in robotic-assisted surgery, often requiring board certification as a surgeon and completion of Da Vinci system credentialing. Familiarity with the Da Vinci Surgical System, laparoscopic instruments, and medical imaging technologies is essential. Excellent hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, and strong communication skills are vital soft skills for collaborating with surgical teams and ensuring patient safety. These competencies are crucial for delivering precise, minimally invasive procedures and optimizing surgical outcomes.

What are some common challenges faced by remote Da Vinci Robot operators, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Da Vinci Robot operators often face challenges related to communication and coordination with on-site surgical teams, as well as adapting to potential delays or limitations in real-time feedback due to network connectivity. Building strong relationships with the on-site staff and establishing clear protocols for communication can help mitigate misunderstandings. Additionally, staying updated on the latest remote surgical technologies and participating in regular simulation training can enhance adaptability and ensure high standards of patient care.

Job description

At Counterpart Health, we are transforming healthcare and improving patient care with our innovative primary care tool, Counterpart Assistant. By supporting Primary Care Physicians (PCPs), we are able to deliver improved outcomes to our patients at a lower cost through early diagnosis and longitudinal care management of chronic conditions.

The Director of Interoperability will lead Counterpart Health's healthcare interoperability strategy and serve as the external face of our work in the industry. This person will shape how CA and Clover engage with the national interoperability ecosystem leveraging FHIR-based data exchange, working on driving the policy, standards, and partner relationships that will define the next generation of healthcare data sharing.

We are looking for someone who lives and breathes healthcare interoperability. This is a person who shows up at FHIR Connectathons, works with implementation collaboratives like the Argonaut Project and Da Vinci Project, understands the latest implementation guides, and has real relationships with the people moving the industry forward. They combine deep FHIR and HL7 expertise with strategic judgment about where interoperability can create business value, improve provider workflows, and advance patient care.

As a Director of Interoperability, you will:

  • Define Counterpart Health's interoperability strategy across the industry, positioning us to continue our momentum as early adopters and change makers.
  • Represent Counterpart Health externally with standards bodies, industry work groups, vendors, customers, partners, and policy stakeholders.
  • Lead Counterpart Health and Clover's work around CMS interoperability requirements and compliance with those standards.
  • Translate complex standards and implementation guides into clear product, engineering, partnership, and business recommendations.
  • Build relationships with the leaders and organizations shaping healthcare interoperability, including HL7, Argonaut, Da Vinci, CMS, and the broader health tech ecosystem.
  • Manage and develop a small team of interoperability engineers responsible for turning strategy into real capabilities.

Success in this role looks like:

  • Counterpart Health is continued to be seen as a leading, active participant in the healthcare interoperability community.
  • We have a clear strategy for how interoperability creates value for CA, Clover, providers, customers, and patients.
  • Our work on CMS interoperability initiatives are strategically focused, technically sound, and commercially relevant.
  • Internal teams understand what matters in the standards landscape and where to place our bets.
  • External partners and industry leaders know who we are, what we stand for, and how to work with us.
  • The interoperability engineering team is focused, effective, and grounded in deep standards expertise.

You should get in touch if:

  • You have 10+ years of experience in US healthcare interoperability, healthcare standards, payer-provider data exchange, or health technology strategy.
  • You are deeply fluent in FHIR, HL7, implementation guides, and the practical realities of making healthcare data exchange work.
  • You have meaningful experience with CMS interoperability requirements, the Da Vinci Project, Argonaut Project, US Core, or related national initiatives.
  • You are already known in the healthcare interoperability community, or have directly participated in the forums where the industry's direction is shaped.
  • You can turn standards expertise into company strategy, product direction, partner strategy, and business value.
  • You can lead a small technical team while staying close enough to the details to guide real implementation decisions.

Benefits Overview:

  • Financial Well-Being: Our commitment to attracting and retaining top talent begins with a competitive base salary and equity opportunities. Additionally, we offer a performance-based bonus program, 401k matching, and regular compensation reviews to recognize and reward exceptional contributions.
  • Physical Well-Being: We prioritize the health and well-being of our employees and their families by providing comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage. Your health matters to us, and we invest in ensuring you have access to quality healthcare.
  • Mental Well-Being: We understand the importance of mental health in fostering productivity and maintaining work-life balance. To support this, we offer initiatives such as No-Meeting Fridays, monthly company holidays, access to mental health resources, and a generous flexible time-off policy. Additionally, we embrace a remote-first culture that supports collaboration and flexibility, allowing our team members to thrive from any location.
  • Professional Development: Developing internal talent is a priority for Clover. We offer learning programs, mentorship, professional development funding, and regular performance feedback and reviews.

Additional Perks:

  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) offering discounted equity opportunities
  • Reimbursement for office setup expenses
  • Monthly cell phone & internet stipend
  • Remote-first culture, enabling collaboration with global teams
  • Paid parental leave for all new parents
  • And much more!

About Counterpart Health: In 2018, Clover Health set out to do something unprecedented: build a clinically intuitive, AI-enabled solution that fits within physicians' workflows to help support the earlier diagnosis and management of chronic conditions.

Years later, that vision is a reality, with thousands of practitioners using Counterpart Assistant during patient visits to improve disease management, reduce medical expenses, and drive success in value-based care.

With an exceptional team of value-based care and technology experts, Counterpart Health is driving value-based care at the speed of software.
