In this full-time position, the Environmental Consultant will support environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and environmental review for energy infrastructure projects, with a primary focus on Texas and opportunities to support projects in other regions where Merjent's clients operate. This role will support a variety of projects, including natural gas, electric transmission, and other energy-related developments, by coordinating permit acquisitions, conducting environmental analyses, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.Preference will be given to candidates located in Texas, particularly within a one-hour drive of Houston, to support client coordination, agency engagement, field activities, and project needs throughout the state.This is a full-time benefits eligible opportunity that can be based remotely in Texas. The anticipated annual salary for this position is between $79,400 and $136,500 annually, depending upon qualifications and experience. We are proud of our reputation for delivering quality work and building long-term, trusting relationships with our clients and with regulatory agencies.responsibilitiesManage projects and tasks associated with environmental review, permitting, and compliance services for clients in the energy sector (natural gas pipelines and/or electric transmission lines and associated facilities).Support projects that involve analysis of the environmental impacts of proposed energy projects, including analyses to support development of project-specific applications and permit approvals.Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies regarding permitting and compliance requirements.Potential to conduct biological field surveys and associated internal and external reporting.Potential to conduct stormwater inspections and necessary reporting. Supporting administrative functions as needed, including document production and technical editing of large, detailed documents. Work with internal project and task managers and external clients in a manner that is consistent with Merjent's reputation for excellence.qualifications and experienceB.A. or B.S. in environmental science or environmental studies, environmental engineering, water resources, geology, biology, natural resources, or a closely related field. 3-5 years of environmental permitting experience, with preference for work completed in the energy industry.3-5 years of experience or familiarity with permitting processes through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, State Historic Preservation Offices, or other federal, state, or local regulatory agencies.1-2 years of experience or familiarity with project management and/or deputy project management preferred.Strong initiative-taker with excellent organizational, problem-solving, and task management skills.Ability to adapt quickly and work well under pressure, both in large teams and one-on-one.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze, organize, and interpret data from multiple sources and translate that information into direct, easy to understand written deliverables. Willing to travel domestically as needed (5-50%), including for field work. Candidates located in Texas or within driving distance of Houston, Texas are preferred.
