What is a remote cross border job?

Remote cross border jobs are positions where employees work remotely for companies based in a different country from where they reside. These jobs allow professionals to collaborate across international borders without relocating, often leveraging digital tools for communication and project management. Such roles are popular in tech, customer service, consulting, and other fields that do not require physical presence. They offer flexibility and access to global talent but may involve considerations like time zones, tax regulations, and legal compliance.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote cross border roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals working in remote cross-border roles often encounter challenges such as coordinating across different time zones, navigating language and cultural differences, and meeting diverse regulatory requirements. Successful team members typically manage these challenges by adopting flexible communication strategies, utilizing collaboration tools, and staying informed about local compliance standards. Proactively scheduling meetings, embracing cultural awareness, and maintaining clear documentation can help ensure smooth collaboration and project success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote cross border specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Cross Border Specialist, you need expertise in international trade regulations, customs compliance, and global logistics, often supported by a degree in international business or supply chain management. Familiarity with trade management software, customs documentation systems, and relevant certifications such as CGBP (Certified Global Business Professional) are typically required. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities help manage complex cross-border transactions and navigate regulatory challenges. These skills and qualities are crucial to ensure smooth, compliant, and cost-effective movement of goods and services across international borders.

Job description

About Turing:
Based in San Francisco, California, Turing is the world’s leading research accelerator for frontier AI labs and a trusted partner for global enterprises deploying advanced AI systems. Turing supports customers in two ways: first, by accelerating frontier research with high-quality data, advanced training pipelines, plus top AI researchers who specialize in coding, reasoning, STEM, multilinguality, multimodality, and agents; and second, by applying that expertise to help enterprises transform AI from proof of concept into proprietary intelligence with systems that perform reliably, deliver measurable impact, and drive lasting results on the P&L.

Role Overview:
Turing invites Privacy and Data Protection Law experts to join projects that fine-tune AI models like ChatGPT. You will apply your expertise in CCPA/CPRA compliance, state privacy frameworks, data breach response, and cross-border data transfers to evaluate how AI reasons about privacy law. If you enjoy analyzing consent frameworks, vendor data processing agreements, and FTC enforcement actions, this is your opportunity. No prior AI experience is required — your background in U.S. privacy law is exactly what’s needed.

What Does Day-to-Day Look Like:
  • Review and evaluate AI-generated responses to U.S. privacy law hypotheticals, including CCPA/CPRA consumer rights, state data breach notification requirements, COPPA compliance, and FTC Section 5 enforcement.
  • Apply a structured legal rubric to assess issue spotting, accuracy of privacy statutes, and proper application of state privacy frameworks (Virginia CDPA, Colorado CPA, Connecticut CTDPA) and federal sectoral laws.
  • Identify gaps in AI reasoning around data minimization, consumer opt-out rights, vendor management, cross-border transfer mechanisms, and biometric privacy laws (BIPA).
  • Provide detailed, high-quality annotations and written feedback to refine AI models.
  • Collaborate with researchers and project managers to align evaluation standards and project goals.

Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school; Bar admission (active/inactive).
  • 3+ years of U.S. legal practice in privacy law, data protection, cybersecurity law, or technology transactions.
  • Strong reasoning skills across CCPA/CPRA, state privacy laws, COPPA, HIPAA (privacy provisions), and FTC enforcement frameworks.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
  • High ethical standards; interest in AI is a plus.

Perks of Freelancing with Turing:
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI projects with leading LLM companies.
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Flexible, fully remote work arrangement.
  • Learn how to use AI to advance the legal field.

Offer Details:
  • Commitment: Flexible, 10–30 hrs/week.
  • Duration: ~1 month, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs.
