What the Vice President, Business Development does at Worldwide Clinical Trials
The Vice President, Business Development leads a team of highly experienced Business Development Account Directors who drive significant bookings targets and support Worldwide Clinical Trials' (Worldwide) strategic position in a competitive market through a culture of collaboration and innovation. This tenured team supports a strong portfolio of existing business and is responsible for the continued significant growth of Worldwide's future pipeline and sponsors. As the organization's sales leader of a tenured team, this role is accountable for overall sales performance, the profitable achievement of sales goals, and alignment of sales objectives with Worldwide's therapeutic and commercial strategies.
What you will do
  • Lead and support senior business development team members in collaboration with Operations and Scientific Solutions to build and execute sponsor engagement and sales strategies
  • Support senior business development team members in all aspects of the sales cycle, including capabilities presentations, proposal reviews, bid defense preparations, and closing strategies
  • Responsible for career development, mentoring, retention, and performance management of the tenured business development team
  • Oversee and support business development plans that result in achieving annual and quarterly sales targets
  • Ensure team compliance through accurate reporting on sales activity and forecasting to executive management
  • Engage at Vice President and C-level within customer organizations to support further engagement or penetration into accounts
  • Support collaboration with all key stakeholders at Worldwide to foster a one-team approach to sponsor engagement and delivery

What you will bring to the role
  • Extensive operational knowledge in drug development Phase I-IV within oncology, neurology, cardiometabolic, and rare diseases
  • Working knowledge of operational budgets for both services and pass-throughs
  • Understanding of all aspects of contracting with sponsor companies
  • Proven track record of meeting team sales targets
  • Successful performance management of direct reports to help them meet or exceed sales targets and fostering an environment that challenges and develops future leaders
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and support discussions across business development, operations, commercial operations, and marketing
  • Excellent written communication and negotiation skills
  • Organized and proficient in time management
  • Innovative, creative, and a calculated risk-taker
  • Proficient in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word

Your experience
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a business development position, preferably in full-service Phase I-IV Contract Research Organization (CRO) environments
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a sales management position, preferably within a full-service Phase I-IV Contract Research Organization (CRO)
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Life Sciences, or a related discipline
