The Work
ICF Next is seeking a Technical Editor/Writer to support a high-visibility federal outreach and engagement program serving military-affiliated communities. This role supports the development, editing, and preparation of outreach and communications materials to ensure clarity, accessibility, consistency, and alignment with government standards.
The Technical Editor/Writer will collaborate with communications teams, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to refine content across a variety of formats, including outreach materials, reports, presentations, web content, and strategic communications products. This role requires strong editorial judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments in a fast-paced federal environment.
The ideal candidate brings experience editing complex or technical content for public-facing audiences while ensuring compliance with editorial, accessibility, and quality standards.
Job Location
Remote - U.S.-based remote work authorized. Candidates must have the ability to support core business hours and participate in virtual collaboration in support of federal client operations and contract activities
What You Will Do
  • Edit and prepare outreach and communications materials for clarity, consistency, grammar, tone, and accuracy
  • Review content to ensure alignment with government standards, accessibility requirements, and organizational messaging
  • Support development and refinement of reports, briefings, presentations, web content, and stakeholder communications
  • Collaborate with communications teams, subject matter experts, and program stakeholders to improve content quality and readability
  • Ensure content is audience-appropriate and optimized for multiple communication channels
  • Manage multiple editing assignments and deadlines in a structured, task-driven environment
  • Support quality assurance and editorial review processes across communications deliverables
  • Maintain consistency in style, formatting, terminology, and messaging across products
  • Support rapid-turn editing and content updates in response to evolving priorities

Basic Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in English, communications, journalism, public affairs, or related field
  • 3+ years of professional experience in technical editing, writing, communications, or content development

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience editing complex, technical, or public-facing materials
  • Strong command of grammar, style, formatting, and editorial best practices
  • Experience supporting federal government clients, programs, or communications initiatives
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility standards and plain language best practices
  • Experience editing digital content, reports, presentations, and stakeholder communications
  • Experience working within structured workflow or task management environments
  • Familiarity with military, defense, or federal civilian programs
